They are tamper-resistant outlets with built-in internal shutters. I got a box of 10 outlets for $10 at Home Depot, and DH installed them all in an hour or two (and he's slow with things like this lol). Right now we only have them in the locations most accessible by DS but eventually we will replace all of our outlets...

I can't believe we didn't find these sooner. We tried multiple outlet covers & DS figured them all out, so finally we went coverless... that worked fine for about 6 months but over the last week or two he's had a renewed interest in the outlets so that's how I finally found these. It would be almost impossible for him to shock himself with them -- he'd need to stick items all the way into both vertical slots simulaneously.

I was so excited to find them, I just had to share. Another (scary!) benefit is that some of our existing outlet receptacles had burn marks in them (and one had a dead grasshopper!) & we didn't even realize they needed to be replaced until DH was installing these.

We had these installed in our house before they moved in - our electrician recommended them.  They're great!
