Peer pressuring and giving up refined sugar

Thread Starter

I feel silly for asking this, but any words of wisdom when it comes to responding to pressure, verbal or otherwise in regards to situations where events are focused around sweets. I'm thinking birthday parties (kiddo or adult), holiday events, or even just sharing a meal with friends/family and they make dessert.

If other people choose to eat refined sugar that's fine, I could really care less, but I feel a lot better when I refrain from it. I don't want to offend others, or appear "too good", but I also don't want to sacrifice something that I really working hard at.

To add another wrinkle I am naturally a very slender person...

Eh, blame it on your doctor! (I feel like "My doctor has me..." or "My doctor says..." have become my go-to replacements for lengthy explanations that lead to debates, or a polite way to say "Butt out!")

I think that's good advice!

Also, focus on the things that you can eat and compliment the host or chef on those things.
