OTC yeast infection treatment for preventing GBS+?

Has anyone heard of doing this? I was GBS+ with my DD, and I'm almost 21 weeks now. My MW told me to do one Monistat-type yeast infection treatment (the internal kind) now and one about a week or so before my due date.

Tonight I bought the one-day treatment, so I hope this is not too strong of a dose, or not as effective. The idea of doing 7 days is not appealing. There was also a 3-day treatment, but one day just sounds so much nicer if I really have to do it.

Anyone?

i thought monistat was an antifungal?

I think it is, yes. But my MW said something about it helping the vaginal canal/environment, about yeast being a factor with GBS+ or something. I am (obviously, lol) forgetting the clinical/exact words she used to explain this to me.

Interesting.  I wonder if you could achieve a similar effect by promoting a healthy balance of "good" bacteria and a good pH-balance...I don't know how, though.  I believe many good bacteria essentially produce hydrogen peroxide as a natural by-product and this fosters an acidic environment, so maybe introducing good bacteria and striving toward an acidic environment intentionally would help, too.

It's intriguing.  I look forward to reading others' responses.

I don't see how it would help, since Monistat is an antifungal and GBS is a bacteria. If it's about optimizing your vaginal pH to better fight the GBS naturally, I think there are better ways to do that.

Why not do a Hibiclens wash?  There's some good strong medical evidence supporting its use to prevent GBS, and it's just as invasive/non-natural as Monistat, IMO.  It's not the nicest stuff, but it's not bad, either.

Yes, I forgot to add that my MW also wants me to do this, too. (Now and later on as the birth approaches.)

I can't imagine why an antifungal would be necessary, then, if you're already using the Hibiclens (antibacterial).  Maybe she's just worried about a yeast overgrowth as a result of the Hibiclens?  Sounds like a lot of gunk to be messing around with in there, honestly.

I used the Hibiclens with my first pregnancy and was able to get a negative result on a GBS test as a result (after getting a positive result on the first test), which helped a TON when I was in labor 'cause I didn't have to fight about antibiotics.  My MW was really good about reminding me to use the Hibiclens every 6 hours in labor, too.
