7 month old - nursing "snacks" ??

My 7 month old seems to have started a new pattern with his nursing. He nurses about every 2.5 to 3 hours, but he will only nurse for about 5-7 minutes. Super fast and right down to business. Then he quickly wants to sit up, look around, grab whatever is near him. I've tried nursing in our bedroom with nothing around us and it doesn't matter. Eventually he'll want to grab the alarm clock!

The only LONG nursing sessions he gets are before bed, a midnight feed occasionally if he wakes up, and then an early morning feed (anywhere from 4-5 a.m.).

He is eating a very small amount of solids, as he doesn't like baby food. So just a tiny bit of what we eat at meals and maybe some mashed yam or avocado during the day.

Is this normal? My DD nursed for comfort, so this never presented itself. DS has only ever nursed for FOOD (he never falls asleep nursing), so this is different for me.

Any input or is this just totally normal as he is getting more alert and desiring to be mobile????

This sounds typically for some babies at this age.  They can get really efficient when they want to keep exploring.  Has his diaper output stayed pretty much on target?

My almost 9 month old daughter does the same thing and she's exclusively nursed. She seems super healthy to me, she's 99.5% for weight, and has plenty of wet diapers. I say just keep an eye on his wet diapers and his overall mood. :)
