Developmental question....

Can anyone tell me at what age a child typically starts "acting out" the stories read to him? DS has just recently started doing this; and he's been "reading" (memorizing) books to himself for a while now. As we're going to homeschool, I was thinking this might be a good time to begin "working" on some aspect of reading readiness. I hate to use that word, as we keep things really light and I don't pressure him to learn anything.

Is this a good age to begin reading easy chapter books to him? Any suggestions?

Thanks - Lisa

chapter books

hi lisa,
we began reading chapter books to our boys when they were 3 years old and they loved it. It was so relaxing for them at night, mainly because they were listening to our voices and using their imaginations to develop the pictures in their heads. We have read the entire Magic Treehouse collection (their favorite), as well as the Raoul Dahl books, Bailey School Kids, A to Z Mysteries, Junie B. Jones (bluck), among numerous others. They even enjoyed the Goosebump books. We are currently reading the C.S. Lewis Narnia books. I would strongly recommend any chapter books that you think are appropriate, and it sound like your little one will enjoy them immensely. Tons of fun....
