What is going on with my babe?

For the past two days she has wanted to be held and sleep constantly. She will lay her little head on my arm and fall asleep sitting up. Its so cute and sweet, but Im afraid something is wrong with her. Here are the symptoms:

~eating significantly less solid food

~crying whenever she isnt being held

~fever around 100

~she slept for about 18 hours yesterday & has only been awake today for 3 hours

~I took her to playgroup yesterday and she would not.get.down. and play with other babes. This is not usual behavior

~she seems to be startled at noises and movements she normally isnt startled by

~dressing, undressing, diaper changes, facewipes, ect. are all very irritating to her. She is screaming while we do it.

Here are the things that are normal:

~no runny nose, cough, or sneezing

~totally normal diapers

~no spitting up/vomiting

~chewing on fingers about like normal

~pulling on ears about the same as normal

She has nursed a ton, Ive given her IB Profuen once because she just seemed miserable. It feels weird to give IB Profuen because Im not sure what Im really giving it to her for. Im waiting for the ped to call me back, but I feel like she is just going to tell me one of three things: bring her in, give her medicine, or wait it out. Im wondering if anyone knows what is wrong with her.

Thanks in advance!

Oh, mama...it's so scary and sad when they are not themselves.  Plus, even though it makes us feel guilty, it is kind of hard on US when our babes are ill.  Could it be teething?  Did she have any of these symptoms when she cut teeth before?  Possible ear infection?  I would've done the same as you (ibuprofin & call to dr.).  Good for the extra breastfeeding...sounds like it is one thing that DOES feel good for her.  Good luck and hope you get some answers quickly and that you both get relief!

Aww... They're so sad when they're sick! Has your babe had cold type viruses or ear infections yet? This sounds like ears to me! I was shocked when my DS had an ear infection at 7 months, he was so non-specifically fussy, nothing I could pin-point. Kind of like your describing! Hopefully it's something mild and your babe is all better soon!

we have nearly the same symptoms over here...

fever around 100 (spiked at about 101 last night, down from that now)

really tired, falling asleep without any of her usual help

very clingy, wanted to be held all the time

not much of an appetite.

we do have some diarrhea, but i don't think i would have noticed it being a different consistency, except that she had done a big solid poop on the toilet, and then before i got her diaper back on her, she did two really runny poops on the floor. if she had done them in her diaper, i'm not sure i would have realized.

i think it is just a virus and we will just have to wait it out. as sad and exhausting as it is when she is sick, i will never forget how freaking adorable it was to see her fall asleep in her dad's arms yesterday evening while i was making dinner. or how cute it was that she crawled across the room, climbed up onto my tummy, closed her eyes and napped for a whole hour in the afternoon.

she is definitely feeling a bit better today... hope your little one is feeling better too!

Hey there, Adaline's momma!  Wanted to check in with you to see how your sweetie was doing.  Any news?

Thanks everyone! Ada is doing much better today. She was still super clingy this morning, and was running a low grade fever for part of the afternoon. Overall, she is way better today than she was yesterday or the day before. I think it was teething or something. It just doesnt seem like illness. My ped said I could give her IB Profuen if I wanted, or I could just make sure to nurse her and keep an eye on her. She said that if the symptoms got worse, it was probably a virus, but if it didn't get worse, it was probably just teething.
