Cleaning the freezer.... Do I need bleach?

Thread Starter

So half of my house had a power outage due to electrical problems. Everything went bad and I couldn't discard it all immediately so I am worried about every disease under the sun growing in my freezer.

I cleaned my fridge several times using vinegar, Sun and Earth orange cleaner, baking soda, lemon juice, and some tea tree oil. I think my bases are covered there. Tell me if I should do more.

I'm freaking out over the freezer. Everything thawed completely and some things leaked (chicken and maybe hamburger). I don't like bleach very much. I do have some though and will use it if the opinions here say bleach it LOL.

Thanks
Kara

I normally use vinegar/water but I've never had a situation quite like what you're describing.  How does it smell at this point?  Have you left it open so that it would air out?

I think as long as it doesn't smell awful it should be fine.  You've certainly cleaned the surface thoroughly and the food normally doesn't touch the freezer directly, it's typically packed/wrapped in something anyway, right?
