T-ball frustration

My 6yo DS is signed up for baseball this year, and until yesterday we knew zero about the specifics, except that the season starts in February. Last night the coach called and told us which team DS is on, that it's t-ball (we weren't sure if it was that or coach-pitch), that there's a 2-hour (!) practice mid-week and a game on the weekends, and that although the actual season doesn't start until late February practices start THIS weekend, and we'll have 2 practices per week until the games start.

I feel so caught off guard! I like to plan and prepare, and although I guess there's not too much we need to do to get ready (buy shoes, pants, and a practice shirt) I'm just all mad and flustered and feel like they should have given us more warning. So I'm just venting. Here we go, foraying into the lovely world of team sports! yikes2.gif

I can see why they'd want that much practice.  T-ball can be rough on the coach's if a kid's never played before.  A 2 hour practice seems like a bit much though, I can't imagine they'd be able to hold a group of 6 year olds' attentions for that long.

But I feel you on the lack of warning.  We go through this constantly with ds1's school and it's very frustrating.

Thanks. We knew there'd be at least one practice mid-week so I'm not upset about that, I'm just upset that it's starting NOW, with only 3 days' warning. I hate that "scrambling" feeling. Thankfully we didn't already have plans this Saturday.

And yeah, 2 hours seems like a looooong time to me. DS played soccer last fall and the practice + game only took a little over an hour and DS was exhausted by the end. I guess there's less running around in baseball than soccer though, so hopefully he'll get through it okay.

There is a lot more involved in baseball. You have to practice catch, learn the bases, everyone has to have a few turns at bat.

I coached my daughter at 5, and it was hilarious. There were parents on the field, one on each base to tell the runners to run and where.
