HEPA air purifiers

I am researching HEPA air purifiers and have found several Honeywell products that fit my needs (for individual rooms), priced approx. $550.

I have recently found a whole house HEPA filtration system by Pure Air Systems that is double the price, but filters the ENTIRE house.

Has anyone used anything like this? Any thoughts/suggestions are greatly appreciated. My sons & I suffer from horrible allergies and asthma and they are getting worse.

Thanks!

I don't have experience with that system at all but I have found HEPA filters to have a very clear and immediate help for my son's allergies and allergy related asthma. He has a HEPA unit in his bedroom and we have one (maybe one you're looking at--it's a HoneyWell 50150) in our family room (main playroom). It has definitely made a huge difference.

Yes, that is one of the ones we were looking at. How noisy is it? Thanks so much!

It's like white noise so not bothersome to me but it's--sort of like a window air conditioner maybe?--when on high. We always run it on high.
I don't know! It's not quiet but this was such a reasonable price for the size of room it handles (handles well..it's made a huge difference for my son as in daily asthma attacks and nasal issues despite meds to nothing at all!) You don't have to "yell" to talk in the room with it. Hubby just came in and talked to me standing right next to it and he wasn't talking loudly and I heard him fine. He couldn't have whispered though!

If it's for a bedroom it might vary. I would love it...but I like white noise while I sleep. If a person was used to or required quiet in sleep it would likely not work for a bedroom. It reminds me of maybe how a hotel air conditioning unit sounds? At any rate, I'd sleep with it happily! It's a constant noise.

I don't know anything about that brand, but we got an Idyllis purifier with a HEPA filter for our bedroom a few months ago. It made an IMMEDIATE difference, and we don't even have severe allergies—just general sensitivity to dust (and in an old house on a city alley, with a cat, there's a lot of dust ...). I swear, I haven't so much as sneezed since we got the thing. If you can spring for the whole house purifier, I bet that would be amazing!

We have the same Honeywell filter mentioned by sbgrace and we love it.  Immediate results the first night we used it.  I find that it is noisy on the high setting but you get used to it.  My dd is a light sleeper and it doesn't bother her at all.
