Can you believe this hospital??

So today I really got p'd off because of something that happened to my husband's cousin. She delivered on Monday and got discharged yesterday. She went back this morning because she was having issues breastfeeding (really sore and cracked bleeding crusted nipples) and an "odd suck." She was really hoping to get some help with a LC and really wants to be successful. This mother has had a rough past and the fact she wants to give her baby the best start with breastfeeding is just amazing. The hospital told her that they don't help breastfeeding mothers. 

WHAT?????

Luckily she called the WIC office and they are going to come help her today. I hope she gets everything figured out.

Have any of you women had similar experiences? This just boggles and frustrates me on why the hospital is not willing to help a new mother with breastfeeding when she had just delivered there 3 days prior.

That's awful!  IMO it's downright negligent for a hospital to discharge a baby who isn't feeding properly.  I know it's impossible for everyone to master breastfeeding before leaving the hospital, but they should have had a long list of people who could help her if they had no LCs.

At the hospital where I had my daughter, they'd cut all the LCs except one in the NICU.  She was nice but gadget-obsessed.  I really needed help with latch and position and instead I went home with a finger feeder, an SNS, syringes, and nipple shields.  At the hospital where I just had my son, there were many nurses who were also IBCLCs, as well as pediatricians who were IBCLCs!  I was really impressed.  They were so much more helpful.

I'm glad your DH's cousin is getting help from WIC.
