Downton Abbey AND Doctor Who!

Anyone here watching Downton Abbey on PBS?  Or did you see it on BBC?  We're up to episode 4 here in the States, and it's fantastic.  I absolutely adore this show. The cast is universally talented and Maggie Smith is a stitch as crotchety old Lady Grantham.

Anyway, Hugh Bonneville, who plays Lord Grantham, is set to play the Pirate Captain in the upcoming season of Doctor Who!  the Pirate Captain was introduced back in Tom Baker's era of Doctor Who.  This should be fun.

i wanted to watch it and forgot and it doesn't seem like they are reairing the first one... the schedule shows 3 and 4 being repeated all week only....  I'll try to find it online though...

We are very very big doctor who fans and can't wait till this season starts... (april?)

Episodes 1 through 3 are available to watch on pbs.org.

I admit I'm a bit confused as the web site says they're airing the finale this Sunday, when there are three more episodes to go.  headscratch.gif

DH and I are really enjoying Downton Abbey!  It's such a fascinating story!  How in the world am I going to be able to wait until the second half?!

I just discovered this series this week and I love it!  I've been watching them on the PBS site.  They have up to episode 4 on there right now. They are starting to film the 2nd season at the castle this month (february).  I followed the link to the real Highclere Castle where they filmed.  It's beautiful and the real Earl/Countess Carnarvon are doing their best to keep the castle going and in repair.

We've really enjoyed this series! We had no idea it wasn't finished though! Our jaws dropped when they finished last night and said the next season was in production!! Torture!

the episodes were 60 minutes in the UK and 90 minutes in the US....

Yes, they condensed all six or seven of the UK episodes into 4 episodes for MPT, and I think they cut some scenes.  I actually bought the UK version at Costco today and I'm anxious to watch it and see what they cut.

i read they didn't really cut anything - that the original article in the daily mail that said they did misquoted and misrepresented what they were told... which was that some things were just switched around to flow better for the 90 minutes (and no commercials) time slots

I LOVE this series!  The characters are so deep and flawed- but still likable. (With the exception of Thomas. Pitooey!)  I thought it was funny to say "Harriet Jones, Former Prime Minister"  whenever Isobel came into scene.  Apparently I was only annoying. orngbiggrin.gif Can't wait for season 6 of Dr. Who too joy.gif  It will have to distract me while I wait until 2012 (!) for the return of Downton Abbey. sigh...

Also... Is anyone else almost willing to trade in plumbing for those gorgeous gowns and hats??!!

Only if I had lots of servants to do all the work for me!! I can't imagine all the work it would take to prepare meals, etc.

*sigh*   I LOVE Downton Abbey!

I'd read an article about it over Christmas and tried to watch it when it came on here in the USA, but kept missing epsiodes.  However, last week I found it on Netflix - instant play even!  I think it must be the UK version on Netflix because it is 7 episodes about 50 minutes each.

So I stayed up late late a couple nights watching it... I just couldn't turn it off.  I love all the characters, and the cinematography and the costumes.  I can't believe we have to wait now for the next batch of epsiodes.

Good point!  I missed that. I mean, I recognize her but couldn't remember from where.
