Hi,
My 9yo ds has had various tics over the years, mostly speech related. Repeating words and phrases after he says them, clearing his throat, a "eh, eh eh" sound, coughing. Most recently, he has started stuttering terribly sometimes. But I feel like he's doing it on purpose, like it satisfies some sensory need, though he says he can't help it and gets very upset. Then now he has been shaking his head--quick short shakes over and over. It's disturbing to see and definitely more noticeable to others than his vocal tics. He has been doing shakes of his hand while writing, too. I don't know if I should take him to the ped for it or someone else? Should he be on medication? What type of doc should I take him to? Or do we just wait until he develops a different tic and this one fades away?
Anyone else in this situation? I want to help my son.

We have been to various psychiatrists/psychologists/behavioral therapists over the years and his behavior has really evened out a lot. But these physical tics are bothering him. He's not on any medication and hasn't been in years.
