Hi there. :)
I'm going to be moving to Seattle with my two kiddos (3 y.o.) in the near future. As in very near future. As in... a few weeks!
I've never even been to Seattle before. It's a long story of how and why we're moving, but yeah... I'm very excited but a bit nervous.
I'm going to be looking for apartments but am SO overwhelmed. I have no idea where to look. We live on a pretty fixed income, especially until I am able to find a job. (Considering I haven't had a "real" work history since about 2006 that's going to be fun.) I figure we can afford about 700-800-900 dollars of rent a month. We need a 2 bedroom for that price. Square footage doesn't matter nearly as much as safety and that it's not, like, covered in mold or bugs. Yick. I've read horror stories online - places that looked promising had reviews that the apartments were plain old falling apart or infested with black mold.
We do have a car but I don't want to be driving around the city; I want to be able to live as carfree as possible. There isn't really a commute to worry about but I'd love to be able to do city living as much as possible - I'm guessing there's NO way we could afford an apartment downtown unless it was a crackden or something, but I'm thinking maybe there's some areas on the outskirts of town that still have access to public transportation? Maybe?
Does anyone have any advice on where I can *start* looking? I've looked on Cragislist and a bunch of apartment places but right now the only thing I've heard is "don't move south of downtown cos it's not safe" - but that's all I know...
