Anyone ever had an HSC for (in)fertility?

My midwife recommended an HSC - inject a dye into the uterus and fallopian tubes to image the tubes to be sure they are clear. The OB-GYN in the office spoke with me briefly and mentioned that there is an uptick in fertility for the 3 months following an HSC - unknown reasons, he stated.

The other things they suggested was a sperm analysis and starting acupuncture, for me. (which I had just started and will try to continue)

And from there...?

Just wondering if anyone has had this procedure and your experiences with it.

I had one done.  It was incredibly painful for me (some people don't find it to be), but I was happy to find that my tubes were clear.  I had heard you were more fertile that month, not the 3 following.  That could just be coincidence that people eventually tend to get pregnant the longer they try. :)  I did get pg the cycle afterward, but I was on clomid and prometrium for 5 cycles.

I had one done and I also remember it to be incredibly painful. My tubes were clear and I didn't end up pregnant soon after. Much later with the help of accupuncture I did.

My friend had it done, too and she did get pregnant right after, but said that it hurt worse than anything she had ever done before. One of her tubes were blocked.

Good luck!

I had an HSG done in December.  It was also a very painful experience for me (I nearly fainted afterwards) BUT one of my fallopian tubes is blocked, so I think that may have been why.  And the doctor speculated that the procedure may have cleared out my other seemingly un-blocked tube.   He also told me that fertility is improved in approxmiately the three months following the HSG, potentially because it clears out any debris that may be interferring.  I got pregnant the second cycle after the HSG, also my second cycle on Clomid.  I'm not sure if it was the HSG or the Clomid that helped, or the combination of both.  But I really did feel like it cleaned out my system (at least one side)

Well, thank you very much for the feedback, but I'm not liking the odds for pain! Three out of 3 of you found it very painful, and pain was not something I was anticipating!

Yes, the OB said something about it clearing (debris?) out of the tubes, even if they aren't found to be blocked. I'd love to see some research on that, or whether it is an artifact of "more trying" as PP pointed out above. Like, we're getting serious about this now! (and trying clomid and other things), so THAT's what accounts for the uptick, not anything associated with the HSG.

I had a call this morning that they had scheduled me for Friday, but I'll be out of town, so I have to wait until next cycle. Too bad I have a 4-day conference, because we're basically missing this month of TTC! urgh!

I had it done but I was knocked out bc they were doing surgery at the same time so I can't comment on the pain. I did get pregnant the next cycle but also took Clomid. I have a friend who had just the HSG done and she got pregnant right away so it seems to really help a lot of people!

I had one done last summer.  I did not find it painful, but I did not have any blockage.  I also did not get PG after doing it (we are still trying...)  But I have heard that it does increase fertility, just by clearing things out, so maybe it will work for you :)  Good luck!

I did not find it painful---just pressure (my Dr advised me to take an anti-inflammatory med before hand- ask your Dr if you are concerned about pain). I DO have blocked tubes and end up doing IVF 3 months later.
