how long for milk to dry up?

not much time so I'll make it succinct.

I am in out of state my almost 2 year old is fine without breast milk when I am not around my boobs are not doing so well. I have NEVER had problems with milk production, hormones from birth control right after birth and dehydration have never affected my supply. I am taking sage pills, using cabbage leaves and even eating gross peppermint altoids. I have not been pumping but have expressed a very small amount in my evening hot shower to make myself a bit more comfortable. I am starting to get red streaks indicating mastitis but it is in the very early stages.

I just want to know how long it is supposed to take for the milk to dry up.  Even if the milk dries up if my daughter wants to nurse when I get back of course she can, but I won't be sad if she weans at this point either. I do want my milk to dry up for now because I am dreading the 4 hour flight back home with boobs that feel like they are going to explode. I left Friday morning and had only nursed once that night and once in the earl morning before I left. It is now Sunday morning, I feel like production has slowed down some. Also I am talking to my Florida doctor to see if she can write a prescription in Colorado if the mastsitis goes full blown.

Thanks for taking the time to read this, I appreciate any insights

to prevent/treat mastitis you need to get the milk out - pump, hand express, borrow a baby, do what ever you can. hug2.gif

Yes, do something now.  Mastitis is brutal, it made me feel dizzy and nauseous and I could barely move.  Certainly could not have gotten to the airport and on a plane!
