Contractons without dilation?

I'm 29 1/2 weeks and I've been having contractions since Friday. I went to labor and delivery at 4 yesterday and my contractions were 2 minutes apart. They gave a shot of terbuteline and sent me home on procardia after doing an ultrasound. My cervix is at 3.5 and nice and high so it doesn't look like the contractions are related to dilation. I ended up back at the hospital overnight and they pumped me full of fluids and gave me steriod shots just in case with another check at the dr's office tomorrow. They checked my urine and the culture came back negative for a UTI but they said they'd check again tomorrow. Has anyone ever had this happen? I wasn't overly tired or knowingly dehydrated. I've never had PTL or anything of this sort. I'm on modified bedrest until I see the dr tomorrow and it does help if I'm laying down but I am still having contractions. I'm stumped. Hoping I can hold off another 6 weeks at least.

I am having a lot of contractions without dilation BUT not 2 minutes apart.  More like 5-6 an hour.  I'm almost 29 weeks.

I am having this too. It's my fourth kiddo, and I think that has something to do with it. It's worse if I don't drink a ton of water, or if I have sex or if I don't eat enough that day. It's frustrating, but not dialating. I like to think it's preparing me for labor, and maybe this baby will come out more easily. I'm 30 weeks, and while these contractions are frustrating, I don't think they're actually dangerous.

Warm to medium-hot showers and baths work to space them out, as well as a half glass of wine or taking a nap. It does make me feel better that others are having these contractions so early. Hugs and baby-stay-in vibes to you!

I had PTL at 34 weeks because of dehydration. I got a stomach flu and vomited for quite a bit. Then contractions started and they were 2-3 minutes apart but luckily I was still closed when we got to the hospital and checked by a midwife. I stayed overnight, hydrated myself immensely and was released the following morning! Still pregnant today at 40w4d.

I always have preterm contractions.  This time around, #4, doesn't seem as bad as #2 & #3, though.  Try not having sex(prostoglandins in the sperm can cause PTL) or use a condom.  If you're not dilating you're doing good!!  But don't want to get anything moving beyond 3.5cm right now, you've got a way to go.  I used a tincture that kept my contractions from getting too strong.  It didn't make them stop-just stopped them from being effective.  Aka: no dilation.  FWIW I know how annoying the contractions can be, even when they're not doing anything they're uncomfortable and often downright painful!  Hang in there and get some rest!!  (don't let yourself nest to strenuouslywinky.gif)

Thanks for the input. I went back to the dr today and it still doesn't look like I'm dilating but they're putting me on bedrest until at least 32 weeks then we'll go from there. The contractions are MUCH better but if I'm up for more than a few minutes they pick back up. They put me on procardia too. Fun fun. I'll do whatever it takes to keep this baby in for hopefully 6+ weeks at least!

Any tips on getting some sleep with these dang contractions? I'm miserable and not able to get comfortable. I'm so so tired.
