painful slit on my toe that won't heal

I have a cut on the top of my big toe. It is about 1/4 inch wide and just as deep. I first noticed it this summer. I am barefoot at home -sandals in the summer, shoes and socks when I go out in the winter. I have tried a triple abx ointment with bandaids and hide.gif superglue. I get a few days relief from the glue. I use a file on my feet every few days in the shower. I mosturize daily. Tonight I'll put some arnica gel on it b/c it hurts, but really I just want this to heal.

My guess is that the combination of the width (that's probably wide enough the edges don't contact naturally to heal) and location (is it in a bendy area) meant it needed stitches. I want to say the width is where my son's was that did get stitches. I don't know what they can do now though and I would have expected some measure of (scarred) healing at this point. Does it keep getting reopened? I wonder if a butterfly type bandage would help at all if that's the case. If you're seeing evidence of infection (redness/swellling/any drainage or similar) I'd certainly want to see a doctor. They would probably do bactroban and it would help.

You're sure there is nothing (like a small piece of glass) remaining in the original cut to keep it open I assume?

I don't think there is anything left in it. I'm not even sure how it was cut in the first place. It doesn't seem to be infected. I have to go to the dr next month, I'll ask him then.
