How did you start?

I'm seriously considering making the move to CD (at least part time) with my 9-mo old son. There are just so many options. I'm waiting to hear back on some Fuzzibunz AIO one size that I found on Craigslist (about 6), and then BumGenius has a good deal on some AIO's sized for about $10 ea. That would give me about 10 to start. Was also toying around with getting a couple of gDiapers & using them with prefolds. I just don't want to make a huge investment to begin, but also know that I need to keep it easy if I'm going to get DH on board. Just curious on any thoughts.... does this sound good or do you have other suggestions on where to begin. Thanks.

When I got pregnant, I knew I wanted to CD, but I told myself I was going to wait until our child was at least 6 months old because I didn't want to have to deal with the meconium and EBF poop. I didn't know much about cloth diapering, and honestly thought that the only type of cloth diapers out there were the old school prefolds with pins (HAHAHA!!!). I didn't even start researching CD's until our daughter was about 3 months old, and we fell into a situation where our money was grossly limited. Honestly, I didn't even research much. I found FuzziBunz, looked at their options, decided I loved them, and presented my case over and over (and over) to DH until he finally agreed to let me buy them. He was afraid of the intial investment, and he also was skeptical about me keeping my interest in cloth diapering (since I'd never done it before). So I bought 12, 6 cloth wipes, and a small travel CD bag. That's all we had for the first few months, but I LOVED those diapers! I even had to handwash the first month or so until we got an old washer and dryer.

We started CDing when DD was 4 months. 12 diapers lasted us all day/night, and I did wash every evening. Eventually I had to get a few hemp doublers for night-time because as she got older she peed more, but those weren't expensive and they worked (and still work) great. Your DH may think that the initial investment is a lot, but when you add up how much you'll spend on disposables (basically throwing your money away) vs. how many times CDs pay for themselves, it becomes a lot less scary.

You are correct about how many options there are out there. What I found is that I just bought what I was originally drawn to (even though I didn't look at too many options), and then over time as I casually researched other types/styles/brands of diapers, I could get a feel for what I might also like. So far, I've tried a few fitteds and another brand of pocket diaper, but I still love FuzziBunz the best.
