Hykue: I'm sure I've asked this before, but where are you in relations to Saskatoon? Saskatoon has midwives (they work out of St Paul's Hospital) and they will do rural homebirths almost anywhere. I believe their rules about rural births were changed in 2010 - previous to that they could not deliver outside of city limits. There is also a private birthing suite in Saskatoon that can be rented - that's what we're doing, as I would not feel comfortable delivering at home so far from the closest hospital. Anyway, there are options - and I'm sending a ton of dust.gif your way in hopes that you'll need to figure out your birth plan in 2011!

Now of course I've forgotten almost all the other personals. Hmmm...

was it Shellhawk? I think? Who asked about gardening in cold weather climates? Anyways, around here, we plant a lot of 'winter gestation' type bulbs that will bloom in spring. All the plants and flowers die over winter unless we move them in to the house. We have a short growing season here so everything we plant in our vegetable garden has to be relatively quick finishing - some of the slower growing vegetables just don't have enough time here. Potatoes, peas, carrots, that sort of thing do really well - cauliflower, not so much. And sometmes our spring blooming flowers will appear, then we'll get another frosty spell and they'll all die. Growing things can be frustrating smile.gif

ValH: Thrilled to hear your ultrasound went well!!!

Jolly: CONGRATS if I hadn't said it already! And I hope your docto/midwife concerns will get sorted out precisely to your liking smile.gif

AFM: Heard the heartbeat on doppler yesterday. And found out I have actually lost weight since both my 11 week AND 8 week appointments - down 4 lbs since 11 weeks and 0.5 lbs since 8 weeks. I have a lot of extra weight to spare though so my midwife is not worried. I'm still up a bit from my pre-pregnancy weight . No more losing though!

dust.gif to everyone!!

Thank you Hykue! Bajingo juice is the best!

Shell – Sorry to hear the Mucinex makes you nauseous.  I was taking the full 2 pills twice a day while I was sick (being careful not to take 4 in 24 hours), but right now I am doing one pill every 12 hours like you.  I haven’t noticed any CM really.  I’m sure there is no hostility going on.  I am using Pre-Seed to help out and TRYING to get 100 ounces of water in a day.  It is work!  That’s awesome you have a separate bathroom for your TTC lab.  I had my pen and large freezer bag to hold my tests in his bathroom.  That’s cool you were able to see the line difference.  As for gardening, I kill everything.  We’ve been in our house 2 years and I haven’t planted a thing.  I do buy one or two cyclamens a year (my favorite – love their flower) and it seriously takes me like a week or two to kill them.  I follow all the directions.  So sad…  Side note – I haven’t heard of Zima in so long!

Boots – I missed your last post.  Don’t be nervous!  I hope your appointment goes well.

JlyGrn – co-op sounds like a great idea.  And to have that support and help with everything sounds cool.  Sounds like it’s a huge house.

LivingSky – that is so wonderful!  It is great to hear how you are doing.  Thank you!

Hi ladies!  Hykue, thanks for the new thread!!

I will post more later, but just wanted to say CONGRATS to LivingSky on the heartbeat - hearing that has to be an awesome experience.  I hope you don't mind me asking, but are you showing at all yet??  You are about how far along I'll be when I need to fit into the bridesmaid dress I've already ordered... I'm trying to figure out if there's any possibility of me actually fitting into it (luckily, it's a little big, and needed taking in anyway, and I know an awesome seamstress who can hopefully work some magic)... my friend that is 20 weeks is barely showing at all, so I do have a little bit of hope!   My sister, on the other hand, always looks very pregnant pretty much from the beginning - hoping it's not genetic!

I'm totally cool w/ being a graduate btw.  I probably should have mentioned that a week or so ago!

Hey guys,

didn't realize there was a new thread, and just getting the hang of this.

birdie.lee hi!  I've been drinking earl grey.  I loooooove my coffee, but read some discouraging things about fertility, so I figured every little thing helps, right?

I am 12 dpo now, and the nausea is for real.  I guess now that I better understand about luteal phase that I will just wait.  I don't want to test and get another negative right now.  redface.gif

Hykue, I've written you a haiku:

new cycles, fresh starts

may the BFPs abound

this february

Thanks for the new thread!

Shell – That does stink that your sister posted that on your Facebook!  People just don’t think sometimes.   Oh, and you mentioned that show “One Born Every Minute.”  DH saw the commercial for it the first time last night, and he thought it was so funny when the guy dropped the cell phone on the baby.  I think I might have to DVR it tonight and check it out later.  Let me know if you watch it!

Boots – Yay for you for making the doctor’s appointment!  I know that’s a big step.

Bel – You should O in the next few days!!!  I think they predict 5 – 10 days after Clomid, so any day now.  Go catch that eggie!

Jolly – Love the idea of the picture frames!  Still not sure what we’re going to do.  We’ve got a couple of weeks to decide, so no immediate hurry.

Birdie – Yay for O’ing!!!!

Cathelini – Fingers are crossed for you… good symptoms!

Caly – Love the haiku!

Thanks ladies for thinking of my MIL with all that's going on in Egypt.  Y'all are a great group of ladies, and I'm praying hard for BFPs all around very soon.  dust.gif

Hokay, I'm not tired anymore, and I've got energy to respond to the many posts since my last one.  Here goes!

Calycanth I'm glad you're going to talk to your midwife about the the spotting.  That seems like a good idea - either to get help or to get peace of mind.  What the heck's a glaze?  I've never heard of it, and I've lived on the prairies most of my life . . . anyway, it doesn't sound good, so I hope it skips you.  And it seems like your midwife will take your progesterone levels.  It doesn't seem like there could be any harm in it, whether it's been 12 months or not.  I'm sorry about your strange bleeding.  I think to some degree our cycles just vary naturally, but at the same time it's confusing and kind of worrisome.  Just a thought - have you had any new women introduced to your life recently?  I know when I went to visit my parents, my sister's cycle got all kinds of weird for that month AND the next month (after I'd left) because it appeared to be trying to sync with my cycle.  Just a thought . . . I don't know if it could or would cause what you've been having.  Also, thanks for the haiku.  I hope the power of the Arc combined with the power of the haiku has enough force to get one metric schwack of BFPs this month!

Taxlady:  I post a large quantity, but not very often.  I think that means I have to decline the position of thread queen.  Thanks for the nomination, though!  I'll do my best as the thread warden, how's that sound?  I liked your pharmacy co-pay story.  That's what I call the DIS-service industry!  Does your husband like shoveling snow in the sense of he's done a lot of it and still enjoys it, or in the sense of he's done it once and it was great?  Just curious.  I'm sorry you aren't able/allowed to TTC this cycle.  I'm sure it makes sense, but that doesn't mean it's not frustrating . . . especially when you're on steroids, from what I hear.  I hope you are able to come to peace with whatever decision you make about the medication.  It's hard to figure out where the balance falls sometimes.  And I can imagine being surprised about your DH's candidness about his SA, but I think he really has it right - things can only be considered normal if we're exposed to them a lot.  And your hair looks really nice!  My husband just cut mine about the same length, and I'm really enjoying it!  I've also had every length of hair, from 1/2 inch to mid-back (can't quite make buttcrack, like Jolly said), but it's pretty fine and gets split ends and I just like it around shoulder-length.  I like ultra-short, too, but it's better for warm places.  My husband liked me best with dreads, but I didn't find them all that hygenic - I liked the way they looked, but they were kinda gross.  So your hair is just about where my hair has settled, even after all my hair adventures!  It's starting to sound like if you took Val's husband and mixed him with your husband, we would get a guy who looked like my husband!  People ask him if he's Egyptian all the time, which is funny because he's mostly Dutch with some Welsh.  And he's got hair about the same length as mine.  I find it amusing to imagine what everyone (and their husband) looks like.  I'm sure I'm completely wrong, but it's fun!  I also like how you and the Arc, you're tight.

Boots: I'm glad I could help with the multiquote thing - it's great, isn't it?  And it was me who milked squirrels.  I don't do it anymore, as a hobby or anything.  It was just part of a job I had once.  whistling.gif  Sorry about your cat troubles, it's hard to have that many, all inside.  My cat once ran away from home because my wanderer friend brought his kittens to visit us.  She didn't come back until the day after he left.  She also ran away when I left her at that same friend's dad's house, when he had a kitten.  I was going away to work for the summer, and didn't have a place, and wanted to leave her with someone else (who had no kitten) but they were moving and Kitty-doo ran away before they could pick her up.  Everyone assumed she was dead - it was out in the country and there were coyotes and she was a stray from in town originally.  2 1/2 months later, when I finished working, I went to the house she had run away from and stayed there for three days, and she came back!  So I have respected her wishes, and she will remain my only cat (except my MIL's cat who comes to visit) until she dies.  She does ok, keeps my lap warm and eats quite a few mice from the garden, even though she's got no teeth!  And that's my cat story.   As to doctors, I don't necessarily trust them either, but as long as they don't just dismiss what I say (I know me better than they do, for pity's sake!) then I trust them to do their job.  And yay for juice!  I mostly do smoothies, but juice is good too.  It sounds like you have hair just like I've always wanted - thick thick thick.  I had two friends with really thick hair growing up, and I loved their hair and wished it was mine.  It's just so easy!  Brush and walk away - hardly gets tangled, looks fantastic just hanging down, ah, I love it.  I can understand being nervous about your doctor's appointment, but you shouldn't be!  If there's something that needs a bit of help, you're taking a great step by finding out about it, and if there's not, then you'll have a bit more peace.  So, good for you!

Bel:  Ugh shoveling out the car in dress shoes.  In fact, double ugh.  Although I think I would prefer that to freezing rain.  I hates freezing rain!  Hates it!  But Dance Central for Xbox sounds fun!  I don't konw about x-box, but they have a yoga thing in WiiFit, but to be honest I thought it sucked.  It was intrusive and annoying and not very helpful, IMO.  As far as being negative and hard on myself, I think my DH hates it even more than I do!  It comes out in some really unfortunate ways, like insisting on doing things my way, even if it's not as good as another way (weird, I know . . . but if my way is wrong, then I was wrong, and if I was wrong then I'm a bad person, and if I'm a bad person then my husband won't love me . . . etc.  I'm sure you see where I'm going with this.  So I get desperate to convince him that I'm right.)  And other times I'm afraid to do anything at all, because I might do it wrong and then I'm a bad person . . . yeah.  It's unfortunate for me, but I don't notice it, so it's easier for me than for DH who has to try to figure out how to point it out to me without making me feel negative and like he hates me.  Fun times!  Anyway, I'm working on it.  I'm finding what helps me a lot is to vocalize it when I notice negative thoughts.  Like my DH will say something, and I'll start to take it badly, and then I will say, "Wait, when you just said thing x, you didn't say it because you hate me or think badly of me.  You said it because you love me and are trying to help me do this better.  Right?"  I think it's a bit confusing for him, because he thinks that should be the assumption, but I have to work to change my assumptions.  He's pretty good about helping me see the truth, as long as I open myself to be vulnerable enough to ask for help.  And as to menstrual cups, I've never felt one even bump my cervix, and I've had it bumped during sex, so I know what that feels like.  When you described your hair, it actually sounds attractive to me, but I bet it's a real problem for maintenance.  I'm hoping our kid(s) get my straight hair instead of my husband's curls.  They look great, but we both have thin hair and it's about impossible to maintain his hair.  It sounds like you're my sister in loudness!  Especially my laugh . . . redface.gif  I once made someone really angry by keeping them awake all night by laughing while I was hanging out with my best friend.  The girl I kept awake was in a little shack about 300 ft (I think, I'm bad with distances) away.  And my friend and I were inside another building.  Oops.  I hope your O gets there right away!  I'm with you on having trouble drinking that much water.  It's especially hard because our well water has nitrates (so it's prohibited for pregnant women), so we're melting snow water to drink.  If our water bottle gets low, I have to go outside with our huge bowl and get snow and then put it on the fire.  Ah well, it sure is the best-tasting water around!  And speaking of water, maybe that's why you can't keep plants alive?  Is your water really chlorinated or anything?

Birdie: I'm glad you like my replies, I really do worry that they're too long for everyone to read, at work and such.  But I honestly don't know how to post less.  I did get some OPK's, just at the drugstore.  They were expensive, but they were here.  And I used one right away to have a control stick.  And to double-check I wasn't preggers whistling.gif  My dogs don't help much with the yoga, but my cat does (when it's warm enough to do yoga, that is).  She likes to walk around under me, especially, so she likes downward facing dog and that cat stretch pose.  Whatever it's called.  And as to holding your dog up to calm him down, that's actually what my husband does if our dog gets in a fight (at his work there are a lot of dogs, so there's occasionally a fight.  If they don't work it out right away, he grabs one of them (preferably our dog) around the waist and hoists them up in the air.  Usually both dogs are so surprised that they lose any interest in fighting.  I can't do this, because I'm too chicken (all the teeth!) and because our dog weighs 65 pounds - I can only lift her if I'm careful of my technique.  And I'm so glad for your nice calm feeling.  I think that's what people mean when they say "just relax and it will happen."  I know that doesn't work for everyone, but I do think it's a good state to try to achieve, regardless.  And I'm glad you got a positive OPK!  Also, I am immune to TMI, so I'm going to respond - I also don't know how to prevent the POAS splash.  I just deal with it.  But I'm hoping someone has some advice.  And I think it's good to watch the birth process, or read about it, or whatever you're comfortable with.  I think it can help make it seem more normal, and being educated is the opposite of being afraid, usually.  You might have just encouraged me enough to get some Ina May Gaskin books from the library.  And I liked your husband's comment about knowing your pregnant when the baby pops out!  Yes, laughter is good for TTC, and besides, it gives me something to say when my husband tells me "We'll find out when we find out."  I am SO stealing that line.  YOINK!

Val The idea of a thumbs-up OPK cracks me up, big-time.  I love the idea of a little guy winking and giving me the thumbs-up when it's time to BD like there's no tomorrow.

Catheleni:  It's pretty normal to have a hard time following everyone's stories at first.  It took me a few months to get into the groove and start getting to know people.  And I totally understand about this group making you feel normal - I think I really needed that at first.  My sister was a big help for that, too, but since she was the only person I knew around my age who had ever TTC, I just thought that she and I were weird.  But we're not!  Or at least, not any weirder than all the other ladies on here, and that's good enough for me!  As for the nausea . . . that's strange.  I'm sorry that it's messing with you.  I think I'm starting to learn that it doesn't matter what my symptoms are in the 2WW.  There are basically no symptoms that indicate pregnancy that can't also indicate impending AF.  Unfortunately.  Not that I'm capable of keeping myself from obsessing when I'm there, just that I don't think it actually means anything.  Anyway, I sure hope I'm wrong in this case, and that it means you're preggo.  I'm in complete agreement with you about not testing yet - I really don't like BFN's.  I would rather let AF tell me, usually.  Or the lack of AF, and then I can test with some hope!  Also, jeebus!  22" is a lot of snow!  And no problem on not seeing the new thread, I think I did that too the first month.

Shellhawk:  Yay, my loquaciousness buddy!  Sorry about the facebook thing.  I try to avoid putting anything very personal on facebook, it would really frustrate me to have someone do it FOR me.  I'm sure she just wasn't thinking, was trying to keep it light and yet stay involved and show she was interested.  But it would still be pretty upsetting.  Especially since it had been there since November.  Grr.  I like your team uniform idea.  Silly, but cute.  I don't wear or have much stuff with logos on it, but my little travel kit (for toiletries) came from my sister, and it's a similac one.  I don't even have babies, and when I do, I sure would rather feed them from my boobs than with formula!  But it's a nice travel case, so I use it.  It would be way cooler to be sponsored by fertility yoga!  I like the idea of telling about a pregnancy in the group photo - you could record the reactions for posterity!  And I love the story about the baby poking your hands while he was still in the belly!  That's great!  And I think you're perfectly easy to understand.  But I might not be the best judge, because I also write the same way I speak.  As to gardening - yup, we garden even up here.  I have a couple of houseplants (succulents do surprisingly well indoors up here, even in a cold house like ours).  My MIL gave me a forced amaryllis bulb for Christmas, so it's on my windowsill just about ready to pop right now.  We can grow annuals or perennials, some of the annuals reseed themselves each year.  There is a short list of perennials (compared to where you are!!) that will live over the winter, but the vast majority of them lose their leaves and regrow from the roots every year.  Like LivingSky said, we like spring bulbs like no-one else - especially the really early ones.  And our animals - well, they're surprisingly tough.  Just yesterday, it was . . . um . . . apparently -13 degrees Fahrenheit and we walked past the donkeys, who were standing in the sun.  I took my glove off to pat one of them, and her fur was WARM.  Really warm, like 60 degrees at least!  And they have shelters.  And lots of hay for feed.  Also, even things that don't look furry, like our goats, grow an undercoat that keeps them warm.  I was worried about the goats, even though I know people keep them here in unheated barns like we are doing . . . as winter approached their undercoats got all fluffy and now they seem ok even outside if it's not TOO cold and it's not too windy.  I would LOVE to see pictures of your orchids - when the seed catalogues come I love to look at all the pictures of flowers, it helps me through the last and hardest part of winter.  I call it . . . flower porn.  Because really, that's their reproductive bits hanging out all over the place . . . picture after picture, pages and pages of them.  My husband finds that really, really funny.  Or maybe it's me that finds it so funny, but he's at least slightly amused.

Jolly:  I can't remember if I ever said it, but if I did, I'll say it again.  Congratulations!  I went ahead and added you to graduates - I considered doing it when I put the thread up but decided to ask you today if that was ok first.  I think the idea of your husband with a pillow in his shirt is fan-frickin'-tastic!  Cheesy is good, I would laugh my arse off while being overjoyed for you if I got one of those.  It sounds like you really like your coop, and it certainly has advantages.  I can imagine that decision-making could be a bit of a nightmare, though?

LivingSky:  I'm in Meadow Lake, so about 3 hours north of Saskatoon.  I emailed the midwives there when I got my positive last fall, and they said there wasn't much they could do for me, because I'm not just out of the city, I'm out of their health region.  She suggested that I get a doula, which I think is good advice.  I might be able to go there, but I think that the drive sounds really unappealing - both because of the discomfort (my best friend said driving in a car while in labor was one of the worst parts) and because there's some pretty long stretches with NOTHING in between here and there - not even a house.  I really don't like the idea of risking a car birth for my first experience, and it would make my husband so stressed I'm afraid he would have an aneurysm.  So I'm trying to find the advantages to birthing in the hospital here.  But thank you for bringing up the options, if I were a little closer I'd be all over them!  Also, congratulations on hearing the heartbeat!  That must have been pretty . . . comfortable.  I was going to say exciting, but I imagine comfortable is closer.  I'm glad your midwife isn't worried about your bit of weight loss.  I'm sure as long as you're eating as well as you can and looking after yourself, you and baby will be just fine.  My sister had BAD morning sickness for her whole pregnancy, but my neice was just right at birth and since.  So don't worry . . . and eat, if you can!

Thank you Birdie.lee and ValH!  I hope I catch that eggie.  I know it could take up to 10 days but on day 8 now so am getting a little nervous.  I am not feeling the symptoms like I did last month.  We'll see.

Birdie.lee - woohoo for O!  Hope the 2WW goes by fast.  (Hey...we can try to act like it does...)  I think we mentioned those shows where people didn't know they were pregnant until they went into labor and the kid popped out - have DH watch that.  That would be crazy, but hey if I get a baby out of it I'm in!  Of course I would like to know before hand.  haha

Cathleni - hoping you are getting nauseous for a great reason!

Calycanth - beautiful haiku!

Hykue - The freezing rain is on its way...ugh  haha  (no seriously  wink1.gif)  I will have to look at reviews for the fitness games I buy for XBox.  Maybe they will make a better one in the future.  For now I will look into the Zumba.  As for those negativity cycles, I hope they get better because you are a great person.  (Again I know its us - we do it to ourselves, but just sayin.)  But I know how it is...I feel bad for DH when he has to navigate me.  But hey no one is perfect!  Ever get the hold-by-the-shoulders-look-directly-into-eyes slow talk reassurance? - yes, they try to help us out. I tend to get sup[er defensive.  He accepts when I tell him things, I just need to be more accepting.  We are working on it!  And on to my hair, I get a lot of compliments when its out and fixed.  When I straighten it (1.5 to 2 hours) it looks great, but I usually only keep it for the night.  I tend to dance at events I straighten it for....must be washed after I get all sweaty.  But DHs hair is super thick too...I had thin hair when I was little so I'm good for the little kid part.  I have great advice for when they get older!  Mousse+hairspray+leave in conditioner=ok for the day.  Funny story!  I don't think I've ever kept anyone awake with my laugh so you got me there, but is it bad that I annoy myself with it sometimes? Thanks for the O wishes!  And you know what - I have never really thought about it, but I think our water is treated and smells chlorinated-y.  I drink the water cooler spring water at work but at home our filter needs to be changed so I've been tapping the tap.  Very good point!  I guess my moms plants are alive and super well so I didnt think much of it, but we live closer to the water plant?  Again, not sure.  I will try filtered water for my cyclamen next time. Thats crazy about the nitrates, but that it so cool how you get your drinking water.  Canada is a lot less polluted than by the DC area where I am, so I think I will leave my snow out there.  spitdrink.gif

I thought I would join in here.  I'm 32, my DH is 41, and we are TTC our first.  I have a DSS who will be 7 in a few weeks.  After about 10 years of infertility, we finally found a Dr. that will treat us!  I am starting my first round this month.  I have been diagnosed with PCOS and Hypothyroid.  I really hope this will work and work soon.  We are doing a Clomid cycle with IUI for starters, so we shall see how it goes!  We are due for IUI in about 2 weeks.

Welcome leilamom!  I wish you all the luck in the world! I see your two doggies and one cat!  :)  Hope you're not snowed in like I am!

Hykue, you are so right about the symptoms not always meaning anything.  My good friend told me that there is really no difference that you can really tell that's so different from AF coming.  That made a lot of sense.

I am separated from my DP right now, physically.  He's across town looking after his nephew and two nieces....and his power just went out in this blizzard! And what am I thinking?  Thank goodness it's not O time!

quick reply then off to work -
ValH: I'm pretty overweight to begin with. i wouldn't say I'm showing at this point, but pretty much from the very beginning I've felt very bloated and not wanted anything that restricted my waist line. It's kind of like that really bloated feeling that some women get right around AF, except it hasn't gone away for 15 weeks smile.gif So I definitely can fit in to my pre-pregnancy clothes, but any non-stretchy waistband would drive me nuts.
I would think you'd be fine with a dress that was just a bit too big for your pre-pregnant self, especially with a really good seamstress.

Hykue: ahhh ya that would be a bit far for comfort, unless you found a place to stay in town when you thought you were close. Apparently there are people who do that, but, when you have a farm it makes it a bit lss realistic an option!

Welcome leilamom!  I hope that you have a short stay here for TTC, but love to hear how things go once you get your BFP.  Glad to hear that you found a doctor that is going to help you get your BFP!

Cathleni - that made me giggle.  Funny how when you are TTC all events are have secondary thoughts to O time.  I'm doing the same thing.

Birdie.lee - fingersx.gif for us!

Sending joy.gifto all our graduates and dust.gifto everyone!

Hi all,

I'm joining the thread in hopes of it bringing me some luckshamrocksmile.gif.

I'm 29 and have been ttc since 12/10 and "trying" to chartnew.gif since 1/11. http://www.fertilityfriend.com/home/332f06

Here's hoping that 2011 will be the year!

Hi girls!!

I just joined this site in the hopes of finding others to go through this TTC rollercoaster :)

This is our 2nd month charting, 3rd TTC. I found in the first month of charting (2nd month off BCP) that I ovulate early , CD11, but this 2nd month of charting, I didn't O until CD 14...so I think I'm still getting regular? Also this month, I've got 4 days of flat temps after O, don't know what that's about, but had a BIG spike this morning. I'm hoping for an ID and some IB in a couple days (I'm currently 5DPO according to FF)...

Ramzubo, is that a Great Dane?! I have a Great Dane/Boxer mix...he's amazing!!!!!!

Yes, she's a big lazy Dane.

My ovulation hasn't been steady either; my cycle went from 28 to 34 days so I'm thinking I might need to see about an OPK.
