Econobum covers?

Anyone using them?  Like or no like?

Buying newborn covers soooon...need to decide!

They are one-size so unless you have really big babies they likely may not fit a newborn.  I got one to try for our upcoming kiddo and it is not very small IMO.  They also have one row of waist snaps (as opposed to two on the Flip and BGOS) so I wonder if that would make them less adjustable for a tiny one?  I do love the coloured trim though, mine are just boring white.

Since you're in the US you can try the seconds from Cotton Babies if you want:

I read reviews on thm and they are mixed. I would not take a chance on them personally. I have a high preference for double gusset covers with newborns and EBF babies (any baby with runny poo.) I'd recommend thirsties covers. I have used the sized covers personally, but you could try their duo covers if you want something that lasts through more than one size or if you want snaps. (I'd pick velcro for a cover personally though with a young baby.)

I also have like bummis super brites.

Those are the only 2 I have personal experience with.

Proraps - I haven't used the cover alone but I have used them sewn together with a prefold as an AIO. They work alright. Not my fave but funtional and cheap. Might be a good choice for a newborn at least.

Thanks!  I have my top list to narrow, or maybe I can buy a couple of each...I'm thinking Bummis, Thristies and the Flip, perhaps the Econobum for later.  I have lots of chinese prefolds in all sizes so I really wanted to avoid any wrap that requires the snap diapers.  Double gusset?  I hadn't thought of that...I do EBF so I might have to go with the Thirsties.

Thirsties, bummis super brites(specifically) and proraps all have double gussets. My fave is the thirsties though.

I use two types of covers Bummi (my favorite) and the econobums LOVE them.. BUT not on a newborn no unless you have 10Lb+ babies...

FWIW this is my baby at 3 weeks old in the econobum.. as you can see for her it was still way to big (legs gapped etc) Photobucket

The Econobums are B1G1 at Cotton Babies, so you might as well try two for the price of one!  wink1.gif

Thanks for the info on cotton babies. I wish I would have known about this when I ordered my first set of diapers. Trying to switch to all cloth, but finding it hard to come up with the money up front.

That is a good deal on Econobums from cotton babies.

My preference on covers is Thirsties. I adore them. I love the multi-size duos. The size 1 is great for little babies, and the size 2 for around 3 months and up.

I have never used the Econobums but I do have one here on loan to look at and it looks like it would probably work okay but it is much thinner than any other cover I've had/seen. It's actually a bit see-through.

That said, I am thinking about getting a couple for laundry day because they are buy 1 get 1 free right now.

Another vote for Thirsties covers!

I also can't imagine CDing a young baby with covers that don't have double leg gussets. That would be disastrous for us!

In most cases I prefer covers with out the double gusset. We get far more blow outs in those than others.

Thanks for the photo October mom!

I ordered three, all from Amazon with free shipping....two Thirsties (sized) and one Bummies Super Bright.  I've been looking at the sew your own diapers websites and think I might be able to get my MIL to help me for some homemade "mother ease" type covers with the PUL material.  I'd like to try to make some AIO's for convenience (car trips/day trips)

I agree that econobum are too big for newborns, but I find now that my DD is quite chubby, the ones with the velcro closures are too constricting around the waist, no matter how loose I do them up.  I now prefer the econobum.

I have been thrilled with the Kawaii cover, just to throw another low-cost option out there.  I have the snap version and have been using them on my twins since they were about 3 weeks (when my order came in).  They were about 7 and 8 lbs at that time.  I use mine over a fitted, but have had a few fitted blowouts that were contained by the cover.

I'll have to check the Kawaii's out.  I just took inventory of my stash.  I ordered some snappis to try (I love pins though!) and some organic flats.  I think I'm going to need another cover or two for the early days.  Due next week!

Congrats on your twin girls!  How exciting!

If you only need a couple, check them out on http://www.sweetbottomsbaby.com/.  They are a couple bucks more, but you will pay a lot more than that for shipping from Canada from the other site.
