Breastfeeding while pregnant.....

Hello,

My name is Heather and I'm new to MDC and I am hoping that someone who has BTDT would be able to give me some advice.  (Hopefully this hasn't been talked about so much before as to frustrate people ;) )

So, my daughter is about 9 months old and my husband and I are expecting again!!!!!!  I am currently about 12 weeks along and am experiencing VERY painful nipples when she latches on.  Once she's sucking it's ok, but anytime she latches on it hurts very badly.  This is a new experience to me because I never had nipple pain while pregnant with her and didn't have pain when I first started breastfeeding.  Does anyone have any advice to help the pain?  Is there anything you can do?  Or do you just have to tough it out?  And if you do, how long until the pain usually stops in pregnancy, or will it continue the whole way through?

Thanks for your advice!

~Heather

I don't know that there is anything that can be done to help. But I know several BTDT mamas who recommend the book "adventures in tandem nursing" which has alot about nursing while pregnant -

FWIW: I am 6 weeks pregnant and have a 14 month old, I have the same issue, it is just something we are riding out.

My son is almost 3 so is probably nursing much less than your daughter is, but for us, it was just something we had to wait out.  It started to get better as I got further into the 2nd trimester (16 weeks or so, maybe).  Now (I'm 29 weeks), there's no pain at all.
