Amniotic Bands?

I'm trying to find out all I can about amniotic bands, but am having trouble finding much out there.  Can anyone point me in the right direction, or give me any information?  Thanks!

I was born with amniotic bands affecting several fingers and toes on each hand/foot, and I was born with a band around one ankle. All bands were removed surgically when I was 2 weeks old. Things must be quite a bit different now; my mother didn't know until I was born since ultrasounds were not commonplace. Overall, it's no big deal for me but I know the affects can vary greatly depending on which body parts are involved. I don't really know of any resources, though my family and I were briefly involved in an online support forum some years ago.

At this point, all I know is they found a band on the ultrasound.  My appointment is at noon today to discuss that.  I was just trying to gather as much information as I could so that I could ask the appropriate questions at my appointment, and didn't really find a whole lot (more on after birth).  I really know nothing about my personal situation yet.  I did read from one source that they are very difficult to find before birth, and quite often only a sheet (or something else benign) and not an actual band, so I'm hesitant to believe anything at this point anyway.  I'm 22 weeks.
