homebirth (especially water birth) videos for kids to watch

Thread Starter

My midwife loaned me a video called "Children at Birth" which shows 4 Bradley births attended by children, but it is really old—the videos look like they were taken in the 70s. Does anyone know of any good (preferably free) videos, maybe on youtube or something that are good to show kids? I am hoping for a water birth so I was thinking something showing a water birth would be good. My kids are 5 1/2 and 3 1/2. My 3 1/2 year old was a little freaked out by the video I have, but they both say they want to be there for the birth.

If you just search YouTube for water birth videos you get a TON. I wish I had bookmarked a few, but I haven't. I just waded through them and showed certain ones to the kids. It helped, they understand a little better now. :)

My birth video shows the waterbirth of my 3rd child, and there are two versions: one without the actual birth, and one with, so you can choose what works best for your family. You can see my 4 yr old in the background as I'm giving birth, which is also kind of cool for kids to see. They're on YouTube:

My video is focused on the singing, as I was amazed at how much this helped me, but I am also definitely in the water!

What an AWESOME birth!!! So beautiful!

We did get video of my home water hypnobirth, but it's so dark that you have to change your monitor settings brighter to see it. I just breathed through each pressure wave and didn't vocalize very much until the pushing phase. My video starts just before the first time my body pushed.

My site has a lot of waterbirths, and all other kinds of births:

By the way if you'd like to share your birth video on the site just contact me in a PM, I'd love to have it!

what a great thread, and a great idea! I didn't even think of showing my kids videos- this will be a helpful tool, and I can't wait to watch everyone's videos!

I have a video of my fourth child's waterbirth and all of my children were present.  My nine year old got into the tub to help catch her little sister.

Also I posted a photo montage to music of my fifth child's birth if you would like to share that with them.  There are pictures of some of my children in the montage as well.

I also really like Birth As We Know It for kids.  The births featured are mostly waterbirths.  Perhaps you could find a copy to borrow from a midwife.  I doubt a library would have it.  Here is a link where you can watch the trailer to the movie. http://birthintobeing.com/shop.html
