sleepsacks for over 2yo?

DD is 21 months and is super wiggly and hates being covered by blankets.  She's been in sleepsacks since we stopped swaddling and I'd love to continue them well into toddlerhood.  Her current one is 40 inches long and supposed to fit from 18-24mo, but she's tall and is growing fast.  I need to research longer sleepsacks for 2+.

The thing is the ones I can find that are for older kids still seem to only be 40 inches long, and they also are really expensive (149 for a merino wool one) or synthetic fleece (Halo) and I really don't want to use synthetics for sleeping.

Am I missing something?  I tried Etsy but didn't see anything there worth mentioning.

Try Sleep Huggers. When fall hit, I was worried about DS being cold so bought him the extra large sleepsack (he's a tall kiddo) and believe me, that thing would probably last him until 5 or 6! (That is, if he would wear it - it wasn't a problem last winter but we went without one for the summer and now he hates being confined in a sleep sack. duh.gif)

Hahaha! As I was checking up on this thread the ad on the side was for www.weerascals.ca custom baby gear including sleep sacks! It's another one to check out at least.

I had a really tough time finding an appropriate sleepsack for DS. What I ended up looking for was actual footie PJs in a size bigger than his regular snug organic cotton PJs, and I put them on over them. It is hard to find them without the fire retardant chems,  and I also hate polyester, but you can find the chem free polyester which I will do over his jammies for at least these few cold winter months in New England. I could never find any in thick organic cotton which was my goal. It seems to be keeping him nice and warm and doesn't restrict movement or get tangled at all (sleepsacks could be fine here, I just was thinking my DS would end up tripping all over them.)

If anyone finds organic footies in 3T let me know :)

yeah, I'd love to have some resource for organic footies in a 2t or 3t!

Sleepsacks are quite easy to sew yourself.  I made one out of two felted wool sweaters for my daughter, when she outgrew any I could find.  Actually, it was a two piece - I made a 'tube' that went up to her armpits and took another sweater and cut off the arms and put that over.  It never wrumpled enough to bother with some method for joining the two together, but snaps or buttons might work.

Or, you can take a too-short one and add to the bottom - that way you don't have to worry about buttons/zippers/whatever - just cut off the bottom seam and sew on a folded square of fabric, sew up the sides.

Seriously I know this might shock many of you mamas out there who are super crafty but I do not sew.  Really do not.  I can thread a needle but can't imagine having the time to hand sew a sleepsack that would probably fall apart in the wash.  I don't have a sewing machine or know how to use one...So I really need to buy a ready made one in this instance.  I can't be super mom all the time!  :)

Thanks!  I bookmarked Sleep Huggers on my computer and will look through it when I have time to sit and order.  It looks like at least the lighter weight one is all cotton and they are much bigger/longer than any other ones I've seen!  Thank you!

I happened upon your thread on the main board... I saw someone looking for organic jammies...? I'd vote Hanna Andersson. http://www.hannaandersson.com/home.asp?cchkrd=y

They have full body, but not footed jammies for infants to 3 and 2 piece sets for over 3. You'd have to put snuggly socks on your LO's feet, but otherwise those PJ's rock! They're super soft and sturdy at the same time, and well totally adorable ;-)

Maybe you could put sweats on over jammies for added warmth...?

Good luck to everyone on the search for the most perfect PJ's!

For cold winter Minnesota nights, I use 2 pair of PJs.  One cotton, one wool:

I bought them super big and they are lasting all winter for my 1.5 year old.  Customer service was very helpful when I called and actually measured the piece for me so I could decide on size.  Wool is great, not itchy and only needs to be washed very occasionally, especially when wearing over another pair.
