If you gave up on the microfiber inserts that came with your Bum Genius...

...what do you use instead as an insert?

I recently bought three Babykicks Hemparoo Joey Bunz inserts. These are six layers of hemp/cotton jersey. I'm not sure if they are enough on their own?

I didn't give up on the inserts, but I did add to them.  I used a hemp insert and/or a microfiber towel folded (the ones from the auto parts section).  My DD is PT but we still use the BG for overnights.  I use all of the prior to keep it super stuffed.

Why exactly have you given up on the inserts?

I just have two BG's for nighttime and I stopped using the mf about 2mo. ago I think.  For my 2 yr. old I use one Green Acre Design One Size Hemp French Terry Insert (got this on clearance and like it much than the mf.  I fold over the flap so it's in front) and one Happy Heiny? hemp insert (this came from a large size pocket diaper and is kind of small and thin). 

For my little one who is almost 3mo. I stuff with a flat and the same HH insert as I put in big brother's dipe.  I like to use a flat because it seems to make the diaper fit better and feel softer.  I pad the back more because she sleeps on her back all night.

Both of them stay dry for 7-11hrs!   I would try what you have and adjust if you need to.

I can't stand MF (especially the feel of it). I use bamboo prefolds. For now I have to sacrifice my Meg-A-Roo prefolds until I can get some plain-jane ones and go back to using the Meg-A-Roo ones by themselves. But, a bamboo prefold inside a pocket at night lasts dd 8-10 hours easily.
