For Earth Scouts this month, we're going to make cards to send to wounded soldiers (we're working on the Human Rights badge). Does anyone know of any picture books (appropriate for 5-8 year olds) that would go along with this?
All Those Secrets Of The World by Jane Yolen is the first thing that pops to mind for me, but I'm not sure it's exactly what you're looking for - it's about a kid whose father goes to war during WWII. I don't recall any wounded soldiers (and the focus isn't actually on soldiers at all), but it is humanizing of soldiers and their families, and overall a pretty sweet book. It's also a FIAR book, if you wanted to include some activities directly related to the book.
I looked at another picture book about a soldier during WWI, but it's pretty upsetting, and the soldier dies in the end, so it probably wouldn't be appropriate for the younger or more sensitive kids. But I can try to find the title if you want.
