Ripstop nylon as a waterproof layer

Thread Starter

Has anyone used ripstop nylon as the waterproof outer layer? Does it work?

I want to make some pull up style pants for DS for over night, I'll be making up the pattern as I go along since I can't find anything that's quite what I want so I don;t want to spend a lot on materials. I may be more tempted once I have a working pattern.

Anyway I have plenty of ripstop around so....

You could try it, but I don't think it would be as waterproof as PUL.  It would be a cheaper thing to use since you are making up a pattern.

Is this the same nylon that something like Bummis pull-ups or Dappi pants are made of? Or the old Alexis Featherlites? We used nylon pants for years, and they work great, so I can't see why nylon wouldn't work as an outer layer. It's so light and thin, too.
