TapaTalk: MDC's Mobile Browsing Test Launch

Thread Starter

As most members are aware, mobile browsing has been greatly anticipated at MDC. As mobile browsing has become more common, many of us want to read and post on the go. We are excited to annouce that MDC is offering a trial-launch available through the application TapaTalk. TapaTalk is available for iPhone, Android, webOS, Windows Phone 7, BlackBerry (still in beta testing), and Nokia.

MDC TapaTalk is a first step toward better mobile support and will allow those eager for mobile browsing to read and post more easily. TapaTalk charges $2.99 for their app. TapaTalk has some interesting features like image embedding, map embedding, and even Facebook sharing. MDC's integration with TapaTalk is still in initial testing, but if you are interested in giving it a try, we would love and appreciate your feedback!

TapaTalk: So how do you get in there?

  1. On your iPhone, Android, Nokia, Blackberry, etc., download the TapaTalk application.
  2. When you first load the app, you will see the ability to browse forums, view newly added sites, and search.  Click to search.
  3. Enter Mothering and search.
  4. MDC should appear in the search results.
  5. Click to view the site.
  6. From there, you'll be able to login with your MDC username and password.
  7. Then you can navigate in, check your subscriptions, see who's online, post in the forums, and more

If you're interested, please play around with it and post to this thread to let us know what you think. There will most likely be functionality issues, at least at first, so please understand that we're still testing and wanting member feedback. During the initial trial, Private Messaging and new posts are turned off.

Thank you so much for your support and helpful feedback!

Thank you so much!!!!  I love using TapaTalk for another forum I am on, so I assume I will enjoy using it here, too.

When submitting a problem/bug report for our new TapaTalk mobile app, please use this form and complete as best you can: http://www.mothering.com/community/wiki/reporting-a-software-problem

This will help us make sure the software folks have as much information as possible so we can fix the issues as quickly as possible. If you can copy and paste the filled out Bug Report form to this thread, we'd really appreciate the assistance!

I am in and keep getting the same "unknown error".  When I try to report the problem at the link noted above I get this message.  I have used the feedback system but wanted you to know

I don't buy apps (only download free ones) so it's disappointing that MDC is using an app that costs money. But I am sure other people will enjoy the feature!

MDC won't be making any money off the app - and while the tapatalk app is $2.99, it can be used on unlimited number of forums.  It's a one time fee.  There is a free version you can try to see if you like it (limited, but still, it's free).  To me, it's worth the few bucks to have the full version.

Actually, I would rather buy it if MDC did make money off of it! Don't worry, it's just the open source nerd in me. winky.gif It's why I have an Android phone and not an iPhone. Apple is really bad about open source, wherea Google encourages it.

It seems the Due Date Clubs in the pregnancy forum aren't there yet? I hope they just aren't there *yet.*

I like it! I was using this for another forum I read occasionally (tech related) and it's easy to use, etc. No complaints from me! smile.gif

I haven't tried it yet (it's downloading) but I have a feeling I am going to be much less productive at work!  I've been waiting for this, I hate trying to go on Mothering on my iPhone!

So exciting!  And thank you for an app that includes WebOs!  I've downloaded (I paid only .99 for WebOs version), found Mothering, logged in, found this thread and tried to open it, got a grey screen.  Closed the app, opened, went to Mothering and just get a screen that says "Retrieving Forum data...".  Did that twice and will try again later.  Thanks again!  Wish I'd logged on earlier in the day!

I just tried and is says it is  'temporarily closed' however, I'm using the free version.

Is it just a temporary glitch or is it because I am using the free version?

Update- the free version looks like it was a one time, or special offer that is not available.

So I'm another using the  free version BUT I don't know what the difference is between the 2 versions.

I use this for the babywearer forum, but I've only checked it (with the free version) a handful of time, and it seemed to work well.

Can't wait!

Jessica

I used the paid version and posted just fine above. However, when I went back to it a while later, it kept asking for my user ID and password and wouldn't take them. bet the "temporarily locsed" thingy is why it's not working with Mothering.

Ok, won't hold my breath, but I will wait!  I'd probably totally pay $2.99 now that at least 2 forums are on it, but if the free version works I know that would help a lot of MDC'ers out!

I'm having issues with subscribed (or "favorites") loading. Anyone else?

Otherwise, it's working fine and I can't wait until we can use the new posts feature with it.

Did you all see to edit you just click on the lower right corner?

Thanks again, Georgia. orngbiggrin.gif

I bought the $2.99 app and mine says that too: the forum you are visiting is temporarily closed, please try later.

Any ideas how to get past this?
