Help! Need recs for WAHM-only stash

Hello CD mamas!

I'm starting a CD stash but I'm venturing into new territory – I want to WAHM-only CD my new babe. I need help here! Please recommend your favorites. AIO, OS, pocket, AI2, prefolds, fitteds, anything goes. And I want all the accessories too: wipes, liners, the works. My only MUST is that it is WAHM-made. Please let me know what are the best out there and why, if you have the time. Oh, and a website where I can find them please!

Many many thanks!

Sarah

Have you been on hyena cart yet? Tons and tons to choose from.

I love little boppers fitteds. I prefer the sized to the one size but both are great. I think you can go to her main web page too and look into doing customs if she doesn't have what you are looking for in stock. I plan to get some more of these for our next lo.

Bumby and Royal Buns are favorites for wool soakers and longies.

It will be fun to see what others chime in with!

If price is no issue, Elbees and Fuzzbom would be the 2 i'd be buying.

Price is an issue for me - and i really liked the fit of both my Pipers Closet fitteds and her wool wraps (fit is the biggest issue for me). I personally would make a few requests on both (and have) - she's been really great about custom orders. I needed a taller rise and extra narrow waist on the wrap, and she got me exactly what I needed in just a couple days. I'd also ask for external soakers (instead of her standard internal, which just take longer to dry) and an extra snap on each wing of the fitteds (my guy's really skinny, hence the obsession w fit).

If you're at all interested in sewing, then i'd look at Diaper Kits.

I just bought some used Esbaby diapers and I haven't used them yet, but her site has lots of interesting stuff!

Is there a reason why you only want WAHM?  If it is b/c you want to avoid big companies, let me gently say that most cloth diaper companies are absolutely WAHM!  FuzziBunz were invented by a mom named Tereson who wanted a diaper that would not give her son a rash, and she still is head of the company.  bumGenius were invented by a mom named Jenn who used to have a tiny diaper store and wanted to make inserts for FB and she is still head of the company.  Rump-a-rooz are a husband-and-wife team who invented diapers for their baby.  The list goes on and on... the difference is these companies have had great success and so can produce on a larger scale.

Now, if you just want custom diapers, then you need someone who will make that for you, and I get it.

Great point, Galatea. That was something I found myself asking, "What is considered WAHM?" I want to do all WAHM because I know there are hundreds of capable women (maybe men too) out there making diapers and such, who are doing it because they need the extra income. If I'm going to spend money on CD anyway, then I might as well pass my dollar to someone who might need it more than bigger CD companies, even though they too started as a one-woman shop. They are so successful because they made a great product, people noticed, and chose to buy from them rather than a bigger company. Anyway, this time around, I just thought I'd keep the cycle going! :)

But maybe my question, "What is considered WAHM?" is more complicated or controversial than I've given it credit for. How do you define it? Does BG still consider itself a WAHM business and promote itself as such? I'd love to hear thoughts on this too.

I love Hoot Hoot Baby (www.hoothootbaby.com)!  We're using the one-sizes, and they are cute, soft, and super-absorbent.  Can't ask for much more!  I also love supporting a WAHM.

Oh, and her wipes are excellent, too!

Rainshine Designs is a fab wahm, and people love her work. If you're interested in fleece longies, I love JulesBulia - nice work and good prices. Let's see- what else? Most of the other wahm's that I loved are out of business. Oh- I also love www.snootybootydiapers.com to buy stuff. I don't know if all her stuff is "wahm made" but she'd have some for sure, and *she* is a wahm, and super nice and helpful.

I think maybe one of distinctions to make is where the diapers are actually produced and by whom.  Even though many of the "big name" companies are WAHM-run or owned, the products are made by others in factories overseas.  For example my FuzziBunz clearly say on the tag that they are made in China, my BGs (4.0 OS, Flip and Econobum covers) are all made in Egypt.  On the other hand the Mother Ease fitteds and covers are made in Canada, while my Nana's Bottoms AIOs were actually made by the WAHM who runs the shop.  So I guess like with anything else there are degrees of WAHM-ness and you have to decide what you are comfortable with.

And of course there is the fact that most diapering shops are owned and run by a WAHM, so any diapers you choose to purchase from their business supports them as well, no matter where the diapers themselves come from.

Thanks for not jumping down my throat.

I have seen a lot of bashing of the moms whose companies have been successful (FB, BG, etc.) and it makes me sad.  The idea that b/c a company is successful, we must hate it... it just makes me crazy.  The finances of the diaper world are terrible - no one is getting rich, trust me, I see how much this stuff costs to make and in this economy, we are all struggling to get by.  Most of the companies move overseas to produce b/c it is very difficult to produce here and have the diaper be under $20.  Seriously.  And those factories in China and Egypt - are those not family-owned?  For example - my sister is married to an Egyptian.  His cousin has a cotton factory in Egypt.  So if I made a diaper with him, my tag would say Made in Egypt, but it would absolutely be a family product!  On MDC, we are a more intelligent and open-minded group, and yet in this one area, we aren't.  I was watching Food, Inc., and the owner of Stonyfield Farms was saying that his old hippie friends always try to attack him for selling his products to Wal-Mart.  His response is, do you know that my milk stopped 1 ton of pesticides from being used?  I would say, in a place like Egypt with an astronomical unemployment rate that is causing rioting and revolution and where half the people live on $2 per day, might it not be the more ethical thing to buy diapers from there?  The quicker these countries can move to a modern society with a middle class, the more stable our world will be.

Just throwing it out there.
