Math U See and Grade levels

I'm trying to find a general guideline for MUS and grade levels.

Is Alpha = grade 1, Beta = grade 2 and so on? Or are Alpha & Beta = grade 1 and so on. I'm just looking for a general idea so I can better pace ourselves and I can't find any information on the website.

Thanks.

It's less grade level and more skill level. I thought there used to be a test to determine placement?

Yes, I think the general assumption is that the average kid ready to start Alpha would be about six, and would take an average of a school year to move to the next level. It's pretty rare for any particular kid to be completely average, of course.

I think they want you to take the assessment test to see where they should fall. I don't really think they are based on grade levels.

The question wasn't about placement, though, it was about pacing.

Pacing is hard to determine because each child will go through the books at a different level.  I figure it out as we go along.  We never finish up a book nice and neatly at the end of the school year.  We start the next book when we're done with one, not worrying about grade level.  Since this is a mastery program, it's very important to move at the pace of your child, which is impossible for me to guess.  I do my planning one week at a time and still need to adjust it frequently.

I agree with Kohlby. The only thing I'd add is that if I questioned if she was ready to move on..I'd have her teach me the concept back and do some word problems. This helped me to know. Hope this helps.
