What to say at my 1 year appointment

Thread Starter

DD has been getting dtap since she was 2 months old. I wasnt thrilled about it, but after long long conversations with DH, I caved and said it was okay. The main issue was whooping cough and the fact that we are eventually going to vax for tetanus no matter what.  So, we are going to continue it.

Every time we go for an appointment, my ped asks if we have "thought anymore about vaccinations." She reminds me of the delayed schedule, and I decline any other vaxes and tell her that DH and I have decided to wait until she is a year old to revisit the topic (this was part of our long, long conversation where I agreed to let her have the dtap if he promised that I would not have to even think about vaxing her for anything else until she was *at least* a year old).

Well, that one year appointment is coming up, and Im sure that DH and I will go together. He is with me now on not vaxing until she is older (4 or 5 maybe even later). Im sure the ped will ask me about it, and I dont know what to say. How do you say, "Okay, she can keep getting dtap boosters, but I dont want her to have anything else and I dont want to revisit this for quite sometime" without being rude. I love my ped, she has been super supportive, and she isnt the run of the mill, shove meds down your throat, push formula and solids kind of ped. She is very supportive of herbal remedies and not overreacting. I like her, and I dont want to be rude, but I do want her to know that Im not budging on this. Ive read all about vaccinations, and I feel like I have really good reasons for why not to do this, but I cant remember the names of all of these things and Im afraid I will sound stupid and get flustered and come off not knowing what Im talking about. Do I need to study to have this conversation? ( I did the first time (@2 months) and she said "Okay", and I felt like I had prepared this huge speech about why I didnt want to vax for everything for nothing :))

So, how do I say no? And should I sign that form I've read all about not signing or not?

Just say NO THANKS with a nice big smile on your face.  Thats what I have done the past 3 yrs.  At our last check-up our Dr said just for the record I strongly reccommend them and I just replied, "I know, and I appreciate that"
