help me find this carseat, I can't remember the name

This is driving me nuts!  A couple years ago when I was doing car seat research, there were a lot of people taking (here) about this one specific car seat, I think it was forward facing only (and I believe they made boosters too), made with a steel frame modelled after the race car seats.  Not recaro and while it looks a lot like sunshine kids, that's not what it was called.  I thought the company had the word safe in it but I'm not positive and I can't find these seats anywhere.  Does anyone know what I'm talking about and if so, do they still exist?  Did they just change names?  This is really annoying.

And once I figure out the name of the company, are these seats still any good?  I'm looking for a good 5 pt harness seat with good head wings that would fit my 5 y.o. who is right now in a nautilus (to get an extra nautilus or something better?  I would really like one she could unbuckle herself in case of an emergency)

Safeguard Child Seat, and it is no longer in production.

Another Nautilus would be a fine choice, or since you seem to prefer the higher-end seats (which are not necessarily safer, although they have plenty of bells and whistles), you could look at the Britax Frontier85 or Recaro ProSport.

The Nautilus is great. I also like the Radian. My son picked the Nautilus when he was 4 or 5 when we had to buy him a bigger seat. He loved it.

Ah, I love our safeguard.  SO sad they stopped making them.  Dd is still in hers most of the time.  Agreed that the Nauti and the frontier are the current front runners in ff seats.

Thank You!  it was driving me nuts last night!  Too bad they're gon, but now safety first makes a safeguard booster?  If the frontier and nautilus are equal, I'll go with cheaper.  I'm just disappointed she can't unbuckle herself in the nautilus..  What about the radianxtsl?  or anoher convertible type seat?  She's tiny and could technically probably rearface is some seats (she's about 36 pounds, 43 inches, seated shoulder height maybe 15.25 inches?) though I'm not sure she'd go for that at 5.5!

IME it's usually just a practice and age thing with unbuckling.  My dd could do it in most seats by around 5.

The safeguard Go isn't the same as the safeguard seat at all.  It's a funny little niche seat- usually not worth bothering with for anyone, and personally I wouldn't trust it now with who it is manufactured by.  Just me.
