To induce... or wait it out? And a rant.

So as some of you know, I finally have some options. Already put my calls in to the MW group that is willing to take me as a late transfer, still waiting on a call back as they were in a staff meeting. So here is my delimma. They won't force a c/s, thank goodness! They usually want to schedule a "gentle" induction for VBACs at 42 weeks but I have the option to decline. I will be 42 weeks on Monday the 7th. WWYD? Part of me is scared to wait it out... yes, my HBAC baby came at 42+5, but that was after my MW stripped my membranes. And I have read some scary stories on here of stillbirth when the mamas went overdue.

My good friend just had a baby yesterday- she and I had the same due date. She is NOT a VBAC mama though, before her son she had 2 previous vaginal birth. She was induced with Pit yesterday and her labor was 5 hours TOTAL, didn't even need stitches! Omg! How does this even happen? lol Her kid was posterior too! Why can't my birth experiences go like that? My induction with DS1 "worked", but I pushed forever and he was "stuck" in my birth canal (he was posterior and his chin was stuck? I forget what that is called). My HBAC baby was a LONG and PAINFUL and DIFFICULT labor, pushed for 6 hours and somehow my MW got him out. Why oh why can't I just pop babies out??? I am thankful I've had at least one VBAC and healthy babes, don't get me wrong, but I wish it was all "easier".

At my last appt (Monday) I was still 1 cm, but I am at least 50% effaced. Don't know what I am now. I have been getting contractions but they are VERY far apart. Would I be a good candidate for a "gentle" induction with Pit? My doula said the MW would sit with me the entire time and monitor it so it would be done as safely as possible. I just don't know what to do!

Again, if you've read all my blabbing, thanks! lol

First, I am glad you have more options.  I don't really have answers for you, but when I have a tough decision to make I write it down.  I make two columns, pros and cons, and then I write everything down.  It sounds hokey but sometimes it helps to "see" your decision.

Disclaimer (I am an advocate of NCB)

I think you should wait it out.  Babe will come when they are ready and it increases your chances of a successful VB.  You could have NST and fluid checks to make sure babe is ok.  I know the the length of labor and pain is a concern of yours.  I am assuming you can have an epi, so I think it would be beneficial to go into labor spontaneously then get the epi when you feel that you need it.  And above all, RELAX!  There is only so much you can control about birth, so there is only so much you can worry about, right?  And every labor and delivery is different.  This one might be very quick.  Hang in there, you can do it!

another decision making tool that i was taught was to use your BRAIN.

Benefits

Risks

Alternatives

Intuition

Nothing - what happens if you do nothing?

how accurate is your due date with this one? and your HBAC? were you charting? any chance you're a full week or more less pregnant than you think?

i think for me, the difficulty about making these kinds of decisions is that if i go for it and it doesn't work, i'll feel like i gambled away my chances and it would have been better for me to wait it out. on the other hand, one could make the same argument the other way. now that my babe has passed the NST with flying colors, i am feeling much less anxious about safety stuff, but for awhile i was worrying about stillbirth stuff too.

Thanks ladies... I don't think I have to worry about this decision anymore now that the MW group said they won't take me since I am so close to 42 weeks :( :(

I appreciate all of the reponses! Going to update on my other thread. I am so depressed! gloomy.gif

they can't just schedule you for a surgery! that's not how it works! it's your body and you can very well do what you damn well please with it.

i would either ignore the calls and say you were busy all day or call them and say you don't consent.

so angry for you!
