Prelabor contractions... stop and start... normal or something wrong?

I've been having quite a few bouts of contractions. Yesterday, I had them 10-18 minutes apart for 7 hours! With my first two, that turned into labor and they were born.

I know people experience this and I guess it can be normal, but could it mean something's wrong? With the baby's position? Or that the baby can't descend for some reason? Any ideas?

I had this happen with my 2nd, almost every nights for two weeks, contractions 5-10mins apart for hours...then nothing....

He finally came at 42w5d after a quick 3.5 hour labor...I think my body was very ready!

I had this last Thurs all night, nothing Fri day, then again last Friday night for several hours at 5 min apart. The pain was unbearable. I called my doc at midnight on Fri to ask for pain control. They told me to go into the hospital, and since I was at 4cm, I was induced w/ a small dose of pitocin. He was born only a few hours later (ie. 6 days ago, at 39 weeks and 2 days). I am thankful to not have to go through that experience for more than 2 days, for hard contractions are very painful.

Good luck to you in whatever you decide to do.
