Book ideas for 6th grade Ugandan girl?

My family and I sponsor a girl in Uganda and I'm getting up a package to send to her. I'd like to include a book, as from one of her previous letters I think she would like that. However, I'm not sure what would be good to send. Her English is not advanced, but I don't want to send her anything that looks babyish, either. Also, we've been told not to send anything with images of affluence that might discourage the children, as most of them live in small one-room homes with no electricity.

Maybe a book with nice photography or illustrations about where you live?  Maybe one that focuses on the geographic highlights, parks, cultural events and activities of your region or state, if one can be found that doesn't display images of affluence?  I hosted a journalist from Ukraine in my home a few years ago, and she brought me such a book about her home city.  Its gorgeous photos and descriptions really give me a sense of where she lived, a part of the world I was unfamiliar with, even though I can't read Ukrainian.   Also when I was a child, my uncle, who was in the Peace Corps, used to send me photo books from Africa and the Middle East, and I loved them.
