I'm so excited I have to share!

My husband is seriously teetering on the border of becoming a whole foods person! We are far from traditional eaters. I do what I can and I have often felt like he is holding us back from getting to the next level because he still gets some packaged products, doesn't eat regularly and really enjoys eating out especially certain fast food places. I give in because it's easy, I have 2 littles ones and I'm pregnant so I'm tired a lot.

Its just a thing where you know, I read a lot of real food blogs and they all have partners that are way into it too. And I know if I had the push from my husband to do the right thing all the time I would find the energy or perhaps even have simpler ways for him to help. Right now i do the bare minimum, get grass fed beef, organic butter, whole milk (not raw but the best we can get), make yogurt, soak grains and legumes, and make and use stock. But I still have frozen pizzas in the freezer you know. He still buys canned soups even though i have homemade in the freezer! He just likes the taste better.

Well, he's recently gotten into p90x and has been looking into low fat high protein. I've talked him out of low fat thankfully but he's still willing to use a lot of prepackaged foods. That is until this whole taco bell thing! Did you hear about it? They got sued for calling their beef product ground beef. They had to change it to seasoned beef and won't be honest about how much actual beef is in there. The FDA says you have to use like 70% or so to call it 'ground' beef, not sure what the regulations are on seasoned! Lol

So that got him thinking, what is really in this crap I eat?!? He told me tonight he's almost scared to eat anything we didn't cook ourselves! Almost, but he's getting there. Then he looked at some tv dinners he has in the freezer and their ingredients and just couldn't believe it.

Forget the msg and the tvp and the gmo, he could care less what it is in there all he knows is he doesn't know what it is and he doesn't like that!

I'm just so excited. I'm not sure how to grab this bull by the horns. I know he thinks I go overboard and I don't want to push him away with too much but I'd like to really get him into eating whole foods. Real foods. Foods that don't come with ingredients! And he's so close but we are talking a lifetime of programming that needs to be undone.

But i had to share with y'all my excitement. Sorry for going on so long, I just knew most of you would understand how hard this can be when you're doing it basically on your own and your partner still wants to stop at whataburger. Though to be fair, I fall in to the trap as well, but like I said it would be easier not to if he said no.

And if anyone has any suggestions on things I can do or say to gently nudge him all the way, I'd love it! Especially articles online he could read.

Hooray!  That is very exciting!  My husband isn't always super suppotive of TF but he does try.  Mostly he just really likes to eat fast food, and I'm addicted so as soon as it's mentioned we jump on that bandwagon!  I try not to pressure him into eating how I eat most of the time.  I do tell him the research behing these bad ingredients and why he should eat more nourishing things.  So even if he doesn't want to do these things for himself at least he understands why it's so important for our DS.  Just don't nag him.  Eat the way you want to and feed your children.  Also give yourself some credit you're doing a great job and it sounds like you're eating pretty healthy.  It may not be perfect but baby steps!  It's taken us almost 2 years to eat almost completly TF (not counting eating our periodically) and there are still a few things I would like to change or add to our diet.  Just make one change at a time and eventually you'll get there!

That's great mama! My DH sounds alot like yours. He hates most frozen and fresh veggies and loves eating out. He used to love Taco Bell until about 10 of his students (he works at a welding school) got sick off it all at the same time. Now he refuses to eat there. I was very excited! We are still fairly new to the healthier eating lifestyle.
