Putting your baby to bed in other people's houses

Anyone do this with success?

I have friends IRL who put their babies to sleep at my house in my travel bed with no problems. I would LOVE to do this, but have only (semi)successfully done it once, at my brother's apartment. My other attempts have failed. Is it possible to help your baby to sleep at other people's houses or do you think it just depends on the kid's personality?

It's been a total crap shoot thus far.

I've tried on three seperate occassions at MIL's to do a nap there.  First time he slept for maybe thirty minutes, but SIL was in the room when he started to wake and she stuck his binky back in and he slept in her arms for awhile (she was using the computer).  Second time I put him down in the crib my MIL has set up there and he actually took a legitimate nap (an hour or two) but I had brought his white noise machine from home so he had something familiar.  I also forgot the baby monitor so I spent the entire nap laying on floor next to the crib reading a magazine.  Third time was last weekend when DS and I crawled into MIL's bed and both took a nap for an hour.  So I guess only one of those times counts as "putting him down".

Have tried numerous times at SIL's house and they are always 30 minute naps.  Haven't figured out if it's a noise thing or if it is him being in an unfamiliar spot.

I think it probably has to do a lot with personality.  My DS likes everything just so, so it doesn't surprise me that he's not the best napper when we are out of the house.
