Flats for toddler?

I've recently started using birdseye flats for my 7 month old. He's wide and long but they fit him fine now, but I can't imagine they will be big enough when he's 12-18 months. What do you do to accommodate this when you are using a one size flat? I haven't found a larger size than the GMD unbleached. I'm using the origami fold now...do I have to switch to the neat or kite folds?

hmmm... How big is your baby? My boy Ryan is 6 months and 25 lbs and I was going to order some flats because we've been going through pre fold sizes so quickly, how do you like flats so far?

I partially use flats on my 19 month old 24 lb. boy. I am planning to use them exclusively on an upcoming international trip (well, use disposables on the plane). I stack two on top of each other, then fold them to the length of the diaper cover (so, not quite down the middle). Then I fold them the other direction twice so they are the width of the diaper cover. You end up with a long rectangular pad, about 4.5 inches by 16 inches or so (just a guess there on the numbers). One end isn't as thick because the first fold wasn't completely down the middle, so not everything was doubled. Anyway, I put the thinner part of the pad in the back of the cover for a boy, so the more absorbant part is in front. I think this workes very well in the Flip covers, but also in many other types.  Hope this helps!

I've only used flats on my 16 month, almost 30 pound son. In disposable he's a size 6 and the flats still fit him well. We have the medium unbleached GMD flats. I've only done the origami fold, too, and it works just fine.

I do hang my diapers to dry and noticed that if I dry them in the dryer they are much fluffier, but also smaller. When I hang them, they flatten out and are a better fit.

I love love love my flats. They make so much more sense on my baby than the prefolds. They wash really well and dry quickly...and they're way cheaper than prefolds. Plus, if you use a folding technique (rather than folding them into a cover- like a prefold) they are a lot trimmer because you can fold the bulk of the material into the "wet zone" and the sides, or waist area, are only a few layers thick.

Monkeyma- glad to hear your son still fits the origami fold at 30 lbs. I'm also using GMD medium flats and my son is only 20 lbs. Hopefully, we'll have a lot more use out of them. It's good to know that they dry flatter when hung, unfortunately I have nowhere to hang them!
