sensitivity to honey, or is there such a thing as bad honey?

I used to use honey to sweeten my morning yogurt for a couple of years. When I moved abroad I had to switch to unrefined sugar because the only organic, liquid honey available at the store caused my throat to itch badly.

This was a year ago, and recently I've been paying attention to my teeth and how they may not be in best shape. My husband cut out sugar in his coffee and switched to honey and his cavities are no longer bothering him. So I wanted to give the honey a shot yesterday and used it in my yogurt. I didn't like the taste at all, but decided to finish my bowl anyways. Hoping I'd get used to it. I had a little bit of itch in my throat, but not bad.

After a while I got really really nauseous and had to go to the bathroom. I felt kind of flu-like. I do have digestive issues normally, but don't tend to have nausea. It almost seemed like a case of gastritis only it settled after about an hour.

Anyways, just looking for anyone who's had a similar experience or anyone who knows what might have happened. The first time I had the honey I was shocked about the itchy throat since I had never had such symptoms in the US eating wildflower honey. This bottle says wildflower too, but it's definitely not from a local farm. I don't trust the organic label in Sweden/EU very much and am thinking perhaps the allergic reaction was due to something in the honey. Or perhaps my system is not used to honey. Which seems weird since it's not an allergenic food, is it?

You can have a reaction to the honey as it may contain pollen. So you may be allergic to the flowers that the bee's visit to make the honey.

You might want to consider testing for a bee allergy. I have a friend i have to be careful what i serve because his bee allergy includes honey.

I was told once that honey is the only food that never goes bad. I'd guess it's a pollen type sensitivity.

Well, though I am allergic to pollen in the wind, I have never had a problem with honey in the past. I also recently had tea with honey in it, for the first time this year, with no reactions, with honey from a local farm. The other honey is from Europe, somewhere.

I'm thinking now I just have a tougher time digesting this type of honey cause it's a little darker, not as dark as buckwheat honey, but in between light and that dark. So perhaps the issue is whatever flowers these bees feed on, I'm sensitive to.
