Epi pen accident

My 2 year old stuck my 4 yo (who has the allergies) with his epi pen.  nut.gif

I don't know how they got them. I don't know HOW she managed to get the safety things all off.  I don't know why her brother stood there while she pushed it INTO HIS THUMB NAIL!  OUCH!

I also have no idea why no one said anything! I came into the living room cause they were being so quiet and I see DS has something on his hand. I assumed it was benedryl (we keep the pre dosed packs in with the epis) but at closer look I see it's blood! Coming from a needle jab in his thumb nail. He said NOTHING.  Didn't yell or cry or anything!

All cause I had the nerve to do laundry!

Ouch! I assume he's fine?

I would have called poison control but I'd expect them to tell me it's ok...I know this response is too late.

yikes!!! i hope hes ok. hugs mama

Ouch!!!! Is he ok now? I have never seen a epi pen actually so I hope he didn't get a dose since it went into his nail.

I would call someone about it because if he got the dose of epi his heart rate could really increase. Poison control or your Dr's after hours number and ask.

I don't think that he got much (if any, I know the 2 yo wouldn't have known to hold it to him and it has a pretty good kick back to it).  We did call his Dr. right away and they told us what to watch for.

I am not laughing yet but I think I will in time :)  I am still trying to figure out where to put them so the kids can't get them but they are still where we can get to them quickly!

I keep one in my purse in a secret hidden pocket. Another I keep in a HIGH cupboard in the kitchen. DS has never managed to find either.

I hope your ds is okay!

They were at the top of a 7 foot tall cabinet dizzy.gif  I am really trying to figure out where to keep them now or if they have "learned" not to play with them!

I can't believe they figured out how to get to the needle! I have practiced so many times to get it right.

Hey, on a side note, those single dose benadryls, how much do you give your ds? I was last told 1/2 tsp but ds was much younger. I want to have benadryl in my purse/diaper bag for emergencies, but right now just have the huge bottle and medicine cup. I was thinking the pre-dose ones would be way more convenient but is there a way to only use the certain amount that you need to?

My DS is on 1 tsp for his age. (he's 4) So he gets a full one. Not sure of your DC's age. I am also of the "I would rather have something quick that I can give even if I only give 1/2" because I had a few bottles ruin lots of stuff in the diaper bag PLUS I don't have it to give if I need it!  :( I just wish they had it in the dye free.

DS is three but the size of a two year old, so his dosage usually ends up weird. Maybe I'll get some and if I need them, do what I can to only give half. Or maybe they'll up his dosage amount soon. I didn't know the single doses existed. I was actually thinking about that the other day but when I went to target, I didn't see any. Where did you get yours?

I just got it at the local grocery store. Looks like this:  http://www.amazon.com/Benadryl-Childrens-Pre-Filled-Antihistamine-Flavored/dp/B001ECQ8C2

I *think* I remember Target having the store brand of them too but I could be off. HTH

(Oh, and my little guy is on the smaller side too. Like I said, I planned on using just 1/2 if we had needed it before they bumped his dosage.)
