Easy Doll for 5.5yr DD to make with Mama--no machine

DD is really interested in crafting and loves to sew, among many other things.  I've long wanted to learn to knit, quilt and sew but I know only the basics though I am creative.

Any afternoon projects someone could suggest?  With pics?

Thanks!

This pattern is quite simple and cute http://judisdolls.com/babybows/index.html

I used an old T shirt in an appropriate colour, and only did one face. It's nice having a doll that can fit into tiny baby clothes as patterns for dolls clothes are hard to find.

I don't have a pic just now but my youngest son (age 6) and I like making yarn dolls and yarn octopuses and either leaving the face blank or gluing on eyes.  I also used to make clothespin dolls with the older two children with a combo of drawing, gluing and yarn wrapping for clothes.
