Here I thought I found a great thing to add to my diet - something I could grow at home, organic, super healthy anti-cancer properties. I bought a good juicer so I could juice them (I don't like to eat them) and a TON of seed (started with 1 pound but I recently just ran out and bought 5 pounds!) ... then I find out about this goitrogen thing. I'm actually on thyroid medication but honestly, I don't think I have a major thyroid problem. I was borderline when I started and just let my fertility doctor put me on low-dose levothyroxine. When I got pregnant, my TSH went up, so did my dose, and then after the birth it went up even more, and then I was on my highest dose, which has since been lowered. I'm currently on 75 mcg. I've been VERY negligent on thyroid tests - as far as I know, I've only had TSH tests and just kind of do the test and let my regular doctor give me the rx.

I recently found a natural type thyroid specialist (Ann Stanger in Madison) and I plan to go to her and get my iodine levels tested and whatever else she will do - I'd like to get off my medication, but here is my question:
Â
If I am taking extra iodine, is it possible I could continue to take about 3 oz of broccoli sprout juice per day? The goitrogens just bind to iodine, so if my 'levels' are fine, then whatever my diet is when the test is done (taking broccoli sprout juice), does that mean it's not harming my thyroid?
Â
Thanks in advance!!

PS, it's not possible that broccoli sprouts aren't high in goitrogens or that juicing removes them? (probably not but worth a shot) ;)
