The normal doubling time for beta hCG tests is 48-72 hours. So if your level was 240 and 4 days later it was 4000, your doubling time is about 24 hours, which happens a lot with twin pregnancies. But it also happens a lot with singleton pregnancies, so it's pretty hard to say anything based on betas. My numbers were actually higher than the average for triplets, but I had twins, and I've seen numbers in that range or higher that were singleton pregnancies.

You should check out http://betabase.info/ to see beta ranges for singletons, twins, and triplets. This is an hCG calculator to figure out your doubling times: http://www.obfocus.com/calculators/betahCG.htm

Beta base is a great website - you can analyze endlessly. For this pregnancy my first beta was 149 at 13dpo the next at 18dpo was 1677. We found out at 7 wks there were twins and at 9 wks there were triplets.

Congrats on your healthy baby! orngbiggrin.gif

And thanks for updating us, I always am curious when I read these kinds of posts. Just goes to show, betas drive you crazy but aren't very reliable about multiples or not!
