What kind of sleep before temping?

I know that the guidelines say that you're supposed to get 3 hours of solid sleep before temping for fertility awareness, but it seems like my body is fine with just taking my temp at the same time.  It's not unusual for me to get up and use the bathroom and get a drink of water a couple hours before temping, wake up and nurse my daughter 5 times in the 3 hours before temping, wake up to my husband's alarm 1.5 hours before temping on weekdays, doze off and on for an hour or an hour and a half before temping, or lie in bed nursing for a while before temping.  I've even gotten up early and just sat at the computer for an hour without eating or drinking for an hour and a half and then just took my temperature at the right time, and my temperatures are good.  I can see ovulation quite clearly.  There's some spiking of temperatures here and there when there are even more factors involved, but none of the above seem to bother my temperature.  What kind of sleep do you find you need or don't need before temping?

I think each person is different.  For me FAM does not work (i also have almost no CM to go on either) because if i get up to go to the bathroom too close to temp taking time, its off, if i wanted to sleep in an hour the temp was off, ha and now that i have a kid if i were to be awake long enough to nurse him the temp would be off.  My temp was off if i strayed from the exact time after many hours of undisturbed sleep.

It was horrible trying to spend all night trying to plan to take some stupid temp so that that temp would be correct.

Maybe more people are like you because so many on here seem to really love FAM (even with babies who are nursing at night) but for me it is just not practical.

JMJ~I'm the same way. Doing little things in that 3 hour window doesn't really affect my temp nor does taking it much earlier or later. But I get really hot when I sleep and I've noticed that if I'm dead asleep when my temp alarm goes off (like I've just fallen back asleep) my temp will be unusually high.

Interesting.  Larzanna, that must have been frustrating!  If you took your temperature exactly on time, did it work, or was it just too hard to keep it accurate?

Yes, if i took it right at the same time (w/in 15ish min) after actually sleeping for more than 3 hours then it was accurate.  Of course this meant that i was having to not pee if i woke after 3am, and that i was waking up early on weekends just to temp (and then i would never get back to sleep)

I threw out many a temperatures on my chart.

Now i have a toddler who still wakes me at night, so i have not even bothered trying to temp.
