Anyone successful getting Tufts HMO to cover CPM?

I'm sorry if this question has been asked a million times over. I cannot find any info that is helpful to me anywhere on the web. You guys are my last resort!

I plan on contacting Tufts today to try to get some more info from them on what it will take for them to cover a CPM. We have an HMO plan, which states:

Quote:
Nurse-midwife care – Tufts Health Plan gives you the choice of receiving your prenatal care from –
and having your baby delivered by – a physician or a certified nurse midwife. Depending on your health plan coverage,
a referral from your PCP may be necessary before you see a certified nurse midwife.

That is all fine and dandy, but there are no CNM's in my area who do homebirth or birth center births. The closest one to me is an hour away, and I think that will end up being just too far, and they will not accept me as a homebirth patient.

A midwife who works at a birth center very close to me contacted Tufts yesterday and was told that I would need a referral from my PCP and that I needed to fax it to a Tufts 'reviewer'. I'm not sure if the person she spoke with realized that she is a CPM and not a CNM.

I would love to hear any experiences anyone has of working with Tufts HMO to get all or part of their birth covered at home or in a birth center.

TIA!
