Breastfeeding and antibiotics...

Thread Starter

I am going to have to take antibiotics for an ear infection. This is the first time I'm taking anything while BFing, and normally if I took antibiotics I would have a yogurt every day to prevent a yeast infection. Now I'm even more concerned about thrush...but my DS has a dairy sensitivity, so no yogurt! Anyone have any success taking acidophilus supplements that they can recommend?

Also, anything else I should be concerned about when taking antibiotics? I haven't seen the Dr yet, so I don't have a prescription. Is there anything I need to know?

I take Sisu brand that are dairy free, and give the infant ones to DS too.

You may also want to be prepared to deal with thrush if it were to arise greensad.gif. I found that gentian violet cleared mine up quickly.

Florajen probiotics are Dairy Free. You can get them at Walgreens -- I would imagine CVS or the like would have them too. You have to ask at the pharmacy counter for them as they are refrigerated.
