Craigslist is definitely the best place to look for rentals in Portland, that is how we have found all the lovely houses we have lived in. You can narrow down your search by searching for a specific neighborhood or quadrant (NE, SE, N, SW, NW) if you know which neighborhood you want to live in.

It looks like from my research here and elsewhere that we'll want to live on the eastside, because that's where all the cool kids live? :lol

It will be much easier, I suppose, to know exactly where is best once DH has a job lined up. Or maybe we get the place first, we'll see. I'm hoping for a 6 month or MTM lease so we can move into a home as soon as we're ready to.

I know I might be a little late to this thread, but another option that has fantastic schools is Corbett -- it's more rural, but the schools are some of the highest rated in the nation. Also very, very close to Boring! You could do back roads all the way and never hit even the teensiest bit of traffic. Not a lot of city things, but fantastic hiking, very close to the gorge, etc.

Also, for the person that asked...Portland is in Multnomah county.
