What to do when there is a outbreak of chicken pox?

My 4yr old is not vaccinated. I got an email from the school saying that there are two confirmed cases of chicken pox in a elementary class. My child is in a preschool class. The email advises kids with chicken pox not to attend the school for 5 days. It does not mention unvaccinated kids. I remember signing a paper areeing that I will keep my unvaccinated child at home when there is a  outbreak, So should I keep my child home? For how long?

i would contact the office to see if i could find out who the parents are and if they might want to have a playdate :)

I think there's usually a process for contacting kids who are to be excluded in the case of an outbreak (and does 2 cases constitute an outbreak where you are?  I think that's a call for the Dept of Health or a similar agency), so I'd wait for a call.

There were 2 confirmed cases of Shingles in our elementary school last year and the school nurse made a point of stopping me in the hall to let me know that she had to find out if shingles counted toward exclusion of my non vax DD.  It didn't for 2 reasons - 1st, shingles is not CP so doesn't count and 2nd, according to our district (random much?) 2 cases does not constitute an 'outbreak' and therefore doesn't meet the criteria of exclusion.

Had there been a CP outbreak in our school, I personally would have tried to find out who and made a playdate.

I'd totally host a pox party too!
