Someone passed this along today.

Disney is taking cradle-to-grave marketing to a new low, branding babies literally at birth.

To promote its new Disney Baby line, the company now sends marketing representatives to intrude on mothers and their newborn infants in maternity hospitals around the country.  They talk up Disney Baby, give newborns a onesie adorned with Disney characters, and urge moms to sign up for email alerts.

Blech!  As if Big Forma marketing to new moms isn't bad enough.

I'm so sick to death of being everybody's marketing target!  It's like I'm being followed by a swarm of gnats everywhere I go.  Leave me, my privacy, and my wallet alone. 

But this hits a new low.  Thanks for posting this.  I'll be sure to sound off to Disney and encourage everyone here to do the same.  (Mods have never had a problem with me posting links like this, Mamapits. )

I got to thinking that we need to start holding hospitals accountable, too.  Don't get me wrong.  We should still write to Disney.  But as long as hospitals are willing to take mulah from advertisers and turn their patients into marketing targets, consumer advocates will be playing a perpetual game of Whack-a-Mole.  In other words, we can talk Disney into stepping down...and then some other corporate sponsor shows up. 

I actually wrote on my birth plan that we would be refusing all formula samples, coupons, and other marketing materials.  But that was under the Pollyanna assumption that somebody would actually read the birth plan...
