Example:  Trying to put diaper on 25 month old ds.  Ds wants to laugh hysterically and kick like a fiend.  He doesn't understand facial cues.  I make sure the t.v.'s off, move anything I think may be stimulating him, talk quietly, etc, but to no avail.  Usually this wouldn't be an issue or a battle I'd take on,but we were headed out the door.  I reacted in a way I would consider abusive and am ashamed and humiliated.  I'm starting not to trust myself (not that I'd hurt him, just that I don't know how to parent him) and am hoping some of you guys have some advice.  Usually I would remove him from the situation to brake the behavior pattern, but how do I communicate with him in a way he'll understand?
